1870: Could Duke Antoine of Montpensier have become Spanish King?

As the title says. Let's say for whatever reason, Amedeo of Aosta was unavailable. Could the Spanish Cortes have given Antoine the Spanish crown?

Giving the poor reputation of Antoine d'Orléans in Spain, due to his duel with Henri of Borbon, but as well his strong political stances and constant shenanigans, Alfonso would be the better alternative overall. Even Republic would have been seen as a better alternative.

You had no real foreign support for Antoine either, not even in France (whom main concern was to avoid an Hohenzollern's candidacy) due to inner political stance and a general distate for Antoine considered as possibly abiding by pro-Prussian stances.

Basically, Antoine's candidacy wasn't really viable to begin with, and apart from every candidate being unavailable and Republic somehow not being an option on the table...

In a short answer, no. It's been a while since I've read Royal Vendetta (Aronson's book on Spain during the Carlist Wars), but even if the Spanish DID accept Antoine (not likely since IIRC there was some deal he made with Isabel II where he screwed her over royally. It wasn't helped by the fact that Isabel and her sister didn't get on), Napoléon wouldn't accept an Orléans Spain any more than he would a Hohenzollern one
