1864 Solano Lopez only attacks Brazil

Paraguayan dictator Solano Lopez ended up at war with Brazil, Argentina and Uraguay all at once in 1864.
What if Lopez had only attacked Brazil and a divided Uraguay? Many of the guacho warlords in Argentina openly supported him over the Brazilians and only fought him after he attacked Argentina.

Well, it would be the most sensible option for Lopez. However, at the time the Argentine government was already against Paraguay, and his initial aim during the war was to restore the Blancos in Uruguay. In order to reach Uruguay he needed to cross Argentina, something was denied to him by the Argentines and that created the necessity of invade the Mesopotamia. The only way I can see Lopez attacking only Brazil is if he doesn't care for the fate of the Blancos in Uruguay, but then he wouldn't have a casus belli to start the war.

Paraguay ends up sharing the same fate as the Juliana Republic - that is, it will piss people off to no end and Paraguay will cease to exist.

Not necessarily, Paraguay is completely different than the Juliana Republic - a rump state that existed only for some months, and could held only one city. If Paraguay had attacked only Brazil (it means only Mato Grosso) then the Imperial government would be forced to ask permission from Buenos Aires to cross into their territory and invade it. Generally it wouldn't happen, but Lopez did the worst mistake possible of declare war against Brazil at the only time during the entire XIX century when both Brazil and Argentina shared a common policy for the Plata region.
