1848, in Washington as in Mexico

I've actually wondered this myself for quite some time.

From what I've gathered, Lewis Cass is basically like a Beta version of Stephen Douglas, only with a willingness to turn a blind eye to cronyism, graft, and general corruption.

He supported filibusters, popular sovereignty, unionism, and the annexation of Texas.

So, war with Mexico or Spain by the end of his term?

Did you mean 1844 rather than 1848? By 48 war with Mexico and annexation of Texas has already occurred.

There's a TL, which was last updated early May, that has Cass elected in 44 and results in a rather bitter war with Britain over Oregon. - See Fourty-Five or Bite by Thespitron 6000. Checking back he knocks over Mexico 1st.

He was even worse in 'Decades of Darkness'. :(
