1789 Brazilian War of Independence

In Brazil, there was a conspiracy to try to start a rebellion and get Brazil's independence, inspired by the American Revolution.

It failed and the conspirators were caught.

What would have happened if they succeeded in starting a war? With the French Revolution going on in Europe at the same time, could the Brazilian revolutionaries beat Portugal? Would other states get involved?

AFAIK, no.

The impression I have is the inconfidentes were people with lofty ideas and not much capability of enlisting the support needed to have a rebellion succeed. I'd say they'd have as much success as the the Beer-Hall Putsch did; that is, they may take a few buildings but get crushed quite quickly.
