1652: the War of the Two Colonies

I was doing a bit of research and learned (admittedly on Wikipedia) that there were loyalists to Charles II in Virginia during the English Civil War. In a reality where Spain or piracy were a large enough problem to require the colonies to have their own army and navy, could Virginia tell Cromwell to piss off, and maybe even get in a shooting war with Plymouth or Massachusetts?

Of course. But that change nothink - Charles 2 would be king in 1660 anyway.
