1297-Łokietek's lucky year

June 1297, Czech King Wenceslaus II dies in some accident during celebrations of his coronation in Prague. Duke Henry of Głogów, one of Wenceslaus' guests is equally unlucky. He returned from Prague to his duchy seriously ill and died few weeks later. Two big rivals of Władysław Łokietek, ruler of Cuiavia, Greater Poland and Pomeralia are dead, both left underaged sons. Łokietek use advantage of Wenceslaus death to reclaim Lesser Poland, Czechs have internal problems with regency now and Łokietek has support of Andrew III, King of Hungary. Now Władysław, due to problems of his opponents managed to take control over most of Poland, in such situation he'll not lost support of nobles of Greater Poland and Archbishop Jakub Świnka, who turned against him IOTL seeing that Łokietek is weak and not in position to accomplish work of re-unification. In few years Łokietek should be crowned as King of Poland, it should be much easier compared to OTL, without Czech Kings claiming rights to the Polish throne, which they never get ITTL.

Lack of Henry of Głogów means that Greater Poland is safe. It would be harsh for margraves of Brandenburg to conquer Gdańsk in such circumstances, Łokietek could use forces from Greater Poland against them, (IOTL when Brandenburgians invaded Henry controlled most of Greater Poland and could attack Cracow as well if Łokietek moved his forces from Lesser Poland to Gdańsk). So no need to call Teutonic Knights for help, Poland could keep Pomerelia.

Meanwhile in Silesia... After death of Henry of Głogów there is only one adult male Piast in Lower Silesia-Bolko I of Jawor, durring last years of his life he'll control whole Lower Silesia.

House of Premyslid paradoxically has bigger chance to survive now, with Wenceslaus II being dead before he opened too much fronts for his son to handle.

We still have Elizabeth Richeza, the daughter of Premyszl II who is in Brandenburg custody, betrothed to one of the princes of Brandenburg.
