10th Army vs Germans

If we presume that the Germans were more successful in the Caucasus in WW2 how would the British 10th Army fare against them? Would logistics cripple them or would they be a serious threat to British dominance of the Middle East.

If you accept the first half, how is that consistent with the second half? The Germans somehow do a lot of damage to the British in the region before flaming out?

Not so much direct damage, but causing the Brits to commit resources to building 10th Army from a occupation force to a field army. The 10th Army was more of a skeleton without much muscle. A combination of training units & occupation forces would be another way to describe it. For the Germans it would be worse, a black hole sucking in resources.

And that build up of a field army in the Middle East threatens British dominance in the Middle East how?

Where are the Soviets in this scenario? Have they gone down or are they still alive and still resisting?

If the latter then I cannot see the Germans being able to devote the resources beyond holding the line in the south Caucasus. Most of their fighting strength will be devoted to countering Soviet blows being delivered from Stalingrad (assuming in this scenario the Germans hold there which they need to if they have also taken the Caucasus) all the way to the Polar Sea. Not to mention trying to build up an attack force strong enough to finally crush Soviet resistance (a la Kursk) in that mythical decisive battle.

It's only after the Soviet menace is tamed that significant German moves against 10th Army become practical. Then the scenario gets interesting.

I saw a player examine this for the Germans in a game. In that specific case he felt his forces were so worn down it was a wash & he focused on holding what he had across Europe & Africa.
