10/12/12 Another, Worser 9/11

I read tim tiger's book betrayal. It was a small but fun action novel. SPOILERS: the main character( An FBI agent is set up in a terrorist attack while on a mission in Iran along with the bombing if an (EMPTY) American school in Paris and us chamber of commerce in Brussels. He is on a hunt to find out who set him. I won't talk more on the story but involves a terror attack on preventing a 10/12 terror attack. The attack is: blowing up a ship (Queen Mary 2) with that has about 3000 people on board and hijacking 25 planes that are all carrying members of the Senate Armed Services Committee. Unrealistic but lest go with ite. The terror conspirators want double the casualties of 9/11 but expect around 5000 to die instead of 6000. Luckily the attack is stopped but let's say it happens in real life during Obama's re election (book was made in 2012). I should also mention that the book doesn't say anything about crashing the planes in specific places but you can do a lot of damage with 25 planes. How would would the world react to this more devastating terror attack? What would be the aftermath? Note: you can choose whether or not to make the planes crash in specific places but please note the amount of total casualties these additional targets will cause? You can also make some planes be overtaken by the passengers if you want.

Speaking purely hypothetically, it would be quite easy to get double the body count of 9/11. If you let loose a series of squads inside various megachurches on Christmas day who knew what they were doing (basically that means they put up a rear guard and blocked exits), you could get that death toll. If a diver team placed the charges correctly on a large cruise ship and set them off while it was in deep water, causing it to sink very quickly, that could also do it.

A turbocharged 9/11 rerun, though...no, I don't think that's at all plausible. There's just too many safeguards in place to prevent that sort of thing. A conspiracy big enough to hijack 25 planes would be too large to be kept secret.

More or less the same as they did after 9/11. You would see a much harsher reaction to jihadists in Iraq and Syria when they really started taking over stuff and the U.S. wouldn't draw down as much in Afghanistan.

The populist surge everywhere might be greater.

I think you forgot that this was an inside job. This was planned domestically (hence the title betrayal). So what would Americans think of a terrorist attack planned by America's own people? Hint the FBI director helped plan the attack.

How would people know it was an inside job though unless of a through leek? Many people still think same that about 911.

Assume it was leaked by the FBI agent who in the book uncovered the plot and he was real. Or a journalist did some searching through the FBI.

If the planes had hit the twin towers a little later in the day, the death toll would have been even higher.

The worst thing Al Qaeda had planned was placing poison gas canisters on the subway trains of NYC. Can you imagine paralyzing the city's underground mass transit, not to mention the incredible terror of being one of the millions stuck underground with the invisible poison gas and knowing there was no way to avoid death if the gas came to where you were. If they had done a thorough job with multiple actors they could have clogged the tunnels with trains filled with corpses, it would have been horrible, beyond comprehension.

What I meant by inside job now that I revisit this was that the FBI director and the CEOs could use their influence and money to get 25 planes hijacked. And get a lot of Creamer.
