Well, if New Charloi is named after Charleroi in Belgium that's pretty... ASB. Until the industrial revolution Charleroi wasnt an important town, and most important is was not in the Netherlands back then. And the Netherlands naming the capital after an unimportant foreign town seems rather implausible. If you want a Flemish name try Nieuw Brugge or Nieuw Duinkerken. If you want something really Dutch try Nieuw Hoorn or Nieuw Delft as name. Which brings me to the following: New is Nieuw in Dutch, not Nieuwe. You only use Nieuwe for stuff (like new shoes), towns are Nieuw. Look to Nieuw Amsterdam voor example. (dont trust Google translate).

If you need further help in with naming or Dutch, I am always available to help you!

Question: With 'weinig Rijn' do you want name it Lesser Rhine? If so, the correct Dutch for that is 'Beneden-Rijn'. Weinig means less as in fewer. Tough if I were you I would call it 'Zuidelijke Rijn' meaning Southern Rhine. Sounds a bit more... smoothy :D

Thanks for the advice, I have fixed most of the Dutch, as for the Rhine i seem to have merged the layer down, so I will leave it, karmic justice for using translate I suppose. i shall fix it in the timeline, might make a story of it. Thanks for the offer i will most definitely take it up!

The final and complete political map of Europa, c.2134. Tensions between the United States and the Europan Whaling Commission (the original functions of the ECW have mostly fallen to the wayside as it's become more of a defensive and economic alliance) are rising due to both sides attacking each other's fishing boats over fishing rights.

A sequel to my earlier UASR map with the 3 sided cold war.

Its now 2003, and the Cold War has had one player out, and another down.

The practicalist regime in Germany had flourished for man years, but people were growing tired of the way things were. A more oppressive leader came to power in that country and started enforcing things upon his puppets that hte population was not fond of. In 1984, a coup by reactionary resistance movements took place in Berlin, with a short Civil War taking place. The puppet governments also collapsed as a result, leading to many of them going into civil wars and overthrowing the oppression. Things got particularly bloody in Italy, where the Spanish and Portuguese stepped in, appealing to the Italians by offering their brand of 'Christian Communism' to the population, renewing interest and preventing the movement from dying out, leading to a partiioned Italy. Despite the damage, the new nationalistic though still democratic Germany is one of the main world powers, having a powerful economic sphere in Central Europe. Only Albania remained in practicalist hands.

In the 90s, the Brazillian regime also fell apart, though for very different reasons. In this case, the ruling family had been ousted from power by a coup d'etat by a power hungry general, leading to a great weakening of the totalitarian regime. Soon, the regime ended up killing itself and the population was restored to a republic. How long this will last though is anyone's guess.

The former sattelites Cuba, Haiti and Yucatan still last though, being some of the worst places to live in the world. The local dictators make a very effective job at taking out opposition, using each others help. America wants to take them out, but the fact they have missiles puts them off.

The starter of the communist craze, the Union of Asian Socialist Republics has been in decline. In order to cement its position over its remaining puppets, it used a powerful assimilation strategy, by flooding the place with immigrants. This proved actually quite effective, working with Nepal, Yakutia, Kashgaria and in the process with the other Central Asian states. This was successful for a number of reasons. First of all, the country may have been Trotskyist, but it never had democidal leaders such as Mao, Pol Pot or Kim Il Sung (even OTL Lenin was more harsh than these leaders) adding at least 60 million or more to the population. Secondly, they never added a One Child population, in exchange for their assimilation process. This is criticised as racist by other nations, including the non-aligned communists, but the Asians themselves are fine with it.

Despite this, the economy has been tanking, thanks to the vast population providing many mouths to feed, and the military spending to defend themselves from the Americans and until recently Germans is also enormous. The largest nation on Earth is teetering on a very fine edge, and the era of communism may be going with it.

So Greenlandpunk?

A mix of that and Moby Dick-punk. There's large populations of Inuit, Norwegian, Japanese and nostalgic New Englanders living on Europa. Of course, the Europan whales aren't really whales and it's mostly a misnomer for large, undersea semi-mammals that are highly prized for their meat, blubber and oil.

No problem at all!

I think the UASR will and should not fall, since the people were not discontented with it. After all, it was not that authoritarian (if at all) and people are not really oppressed...

"After nearly a century of global hardship the people of the earth have decided on taking the first tentative steps towards global unification. The come to this point in our common history we had faced many hardships: wars, inter-ethnic and religious violence and global environmental catastrophe of the rising sea level or the “Slow Flood”.

With the formation of the "Eight Great Unions" a couple of decades ago we laid the first foundation for a world government and with the will of the people of the Earth and their leaders - notably American President Haughton, granddaughter of a famous American Musician and Humanitarian, and President Koothrappali of India, grandson of a famous Indian Astronomer – we will remember this day, the fifth of June as a truly historic event – humanity first step towards global unification."

Nice map. Did you make it entirely from scratch or use a base map?

A WIP I found lurking on my computer - from the looks of it and what I can remember it is a British-Imperial wank with a PoD around 1850s or so - happy to try and answer any questions.

Questions about the CSA- are those Confederate colonies in Africa and Indochina? Why is Texas the protectorate color and Kentucky the dominion/territory color? Why is Confederate Arizona divided between protectorate and state colors? Is that Texan influence or is that John Baylor still hanging around?

Throwing my hat into the ring of MotF. Don't expect to win, my maps ain't pretty or clever.

In this world, things got nasty in Japan in WW2, necessitating an invasion that brought Japan low and secured it for Democracy. But it came at the cost of thousands of American lives. There was no appetite for a Marshall Plan or lengthy occupations in Europe after the war, and America turned back into isolation, concentrating on cultivating democracy in the Americas, clashing with the Communists only when it directly threatened American interests, as in the Korean War.

The Soviets realised they wouldn't have any competition and absorbed the Eastern European Peoples Republics. The Anglo-French Union was resurrected from the paperwork and the Soviets were stopped from invading West Germany. The Anglo-French began rapidly decolonising, delegating responsibilities to Dominions carved out of their colonies. When responsible government was granted to West Germany and Austria, they joined the Anglo-French Union, now reorganised as the European Union. Most of Europe joined up out of fear of the Soviets with the exception of Spain and Portugal which was having no truck with the Communists or the pinko Europeans.

Fast forwards to the 1990s. The USSR has recently opened up. It underwent a transition in the 1990s as Russians lost their majority, and democracy has spread. Talk of a limited association with the world-spanning United Commonwealth has been mooted, though the prospect of theoretically of placing themselves under the theoretical rule of Queen Elizabeth has made some members of the Politburo throw up a little. The United States similarly is considering links with the UC. The Indian economy is booming and the Indian Ocean is becoming a new centre of power in the UC, and the Americans want a slice of that pie but the Commonwealth Market requires a level of association they balk at. Africa is a growing powerhouse, a steaming juggernaut of industry which has drawn condemnation from environmental activists.

Only now, looking at the breadth of their domain do the legislators in Paris realise the full possibilities of the European Union and the United Commonwealth. If a Federal arrangement could be reached with the Dominions and the Associated States, then the United Commonwealth could be truly united, and if the remaining countries of the world associated themselves, then maybe the House of Windsor could be suzerain of all the world...
