True, but you can't blame me for thinking its a lot when there's three states in *Missouri alone, and the St. Lawrence has about 5-7 around it.

That's the implication around the US, but it's funny how that works, because Russia has a ton of subdivisions that we view as normal. It's our typical experiences with top-level American subdivisions messing us up.

That's an awful lot of states in Canada. What's the US colored country in Virginia, and the independent country in New England?
Compared to OTL's Canada, yes. They don't have governments and none of them have the sort of state-patriotism common in OTL's USA and Canada, existing for ease of governance/taxation and for voting purposes. Each one is based around a fairly populous city, and their borders change every few years as populations move.

The US-colored country is the Republic of New Guernsey, a backwater English-speaking formerly Scottish state which broke away in violent revolution. The state in OTL Massachusetts is the Duchy of Steenmuur, which peacefully gained independence from Frisia a few years back. Lots of Africans and Evenaarians- closely aligned still with Evaanaria and Frisia.

What's going on in the Sahara, and in China+SEAsia?
In Morocco and The Northern African Republic, Berber nationalists are revolting against the Arab controlled military governments which have been in power since Spain and France respectively allowed the two to gain independence. Cape Rapid and Bafourya are both democratic and stable post-colonial states. Much of the rest is part of the Codomain as denoted by the pink outline. The main body is part of the Kingdom of Africa, which shares it's upper government and head of state with the Kingdom of England. Tunisia, Darfur and Darunga are Welsh protectorates. Ajaria and Oyoland are Irish protectorates. Tripolitania, Cyrenaica and Borgu are Scottish protectorates. Valberg and Mali are English protectorates. Finally, Costa Nova is a protectorate of India. Native culture is slowly but surely being replaced by more cosmopolitan Codomain culture, and dozens of languages have unfortunately been lost and replaced with English. This is a two way process however, and a myriad number of African dishes and cultural oddities can be found in other areas of the Codomain.

As for Southeast Asia, Pegu and Dhatviet are stable Socialist states which gained independence from France following the Great Wars. The Kingdom of Anazakhthai (AKA Ayutthaya or Syama) is a technologically advanced state comparable to OTL Japan but not nearly so crowded. See below for China.
China's had lots of infighting, and the idea of a Heavenly Mandate died out some time ago. This of course let colonizers in... The states now existent there aren't much better off then OTL African post-colonials, and there where a few Pol-Pot type characters a few years ago. Those that could get out, got out, quite a few to Eastern New Spain. A lot of the area we call China is part of Russia TTL, including Beijing and surroundings- and whilst the locals look Asiatic, they speak Russian fluently enough that people don't really consider there to be a difference.

Is that a *Canadian New Zealand?

Are the Canadians French or English speakers?

What's that purple blob south of the Great Lakes?

What are the states in Australia? (Aside from the red one, which I presume is a state in the Codomain).

What's going on in Japan?

Is that purple blob in SE Africa a *Zulu state?

A map of who colonized where might be useful.

Interestingly different.

Is that a *Canadian New Zealand?
I'm afraid not. Nouvelle-Orleanais is independent, French speaking and majority Maori.
Are the Canadians French or English speakers?
Decidedly French, though native languages are common and there are pretty large Zarphatic, Breton and Occitan speaking groups.
What's that purple blob south of the Great Lakes?
The Iroquois Federation, which is the only native state in the Americas to survive the colonial era. They have a pretty inflated national image in the same vein as OTL Thailand's due to this.
What are the states in Australia? (Aside from the red one, which I presume is a state in the Codomain).
They are, clockwise: The Principitality of Nova Guine, The Popular Federation of Pedranagua, The Republic of Anotolika, and The Commune of Maryland. The first is a Portuguese colonial successor which broke off very early, speaking Portuguese but having very few people of Portuguese descent- lots of Chinese, actually. The second is a recent creation, a combination of several post-colonial states and native kingdoms through violent revolution- which is why it's Red. The third was a English protectorate, before being occupied during the Great Wars and electing to become independent afterwards. Maryland was set up by migrants of mostly Brandenburger and Fries descent under protection of Scotland and later Wales; went the same way as Anotolika.
What's going on in Japan?
Nothing much, the islands haven't been properly unified in hundreds of years. The yellow state, Iyabon, revolted with Russian aid from Korea and the others have never been colonized.
Is that purple blob in SE Africa a *Zulu state?
No. It's the last noteworthy colony of France, who is extremely reluctant to let it go as 45% of the populace is of French origin and a further 35% is of other European origin.
A map of who colonized where might be useful.
Already on the list of maps to be made.
Interestingly different.
Thanks you.

Random map for no reason.

Yep. North to south, that's the Respublica Cherokia, the Batonville Commune, and the Maguiar Estate. The first is an ongoing attempt to restore the Cherokee State (With weaponry dating from the Great Wars, much of it stolen from a museum.). The second is a township which is following a radicalized version of the German ideology and has declared independence. The third is run by a single family and is mass-exporting various illegal substances such as gunpowder, moonshine, and a selection of non-medicinal drugs like tobacco. A few years ago, half of the country was run by similar estates but only the Maguiars still hold on aboveground. As I have said previously, TTL's North America* more closely resembles OTL's South America with their juntas, cartels, and rebels.

Cross-posted from oneshot scenarios...

A map, inspired by an old Future History map challenge, and with some ideas stolen from Nikoznate. (Hey, Niko - Atenist Ancient Egypt is cool and all, but couldn't you do an original map or two? You did some neato ones...)

It's been a tough 21st century. Global warming bit hard, economies collapsed as lessons were ignored in favor of comfortable lies, great powers fell apart and chaos spread to much of the world. But now as the start of the 22nd approaches, the world is (shakily) at peace, people have gotten a handle on the climate changes provoked by global warming and learned to live with them or work around them, and a new prosperity based on weak AI, quantum computing, genetic engineering, and fusion power has spread widely. Four major power blocks dominate the globe, all originating in what was once dismissed as the "Third World", although the nations of Europe remain far from unimportant, and Canada is nobody's hat. New religious movements have emerged, and Russia, although too shrunken in population to be a first-rate power economically or militarily, has drawn the attention of the world with a new spiritual awakening (the Neo-Orthodox clergy are dedicated in their probity: they not only take oaths, but also implant anti-sin control chips in their brains). India currently bestrides the world, but technocratic Mexico, bio-tech fascinated Green Brazil, and the Indonesians and their allies won't let them rest on their laurels. The world moves forward into a new century...

Essentially. Rising power, speaks a different language then everyone else, formerly an Empire? Fits the bill.

The German Federation is the result of a successful German Peasant's War. Things are in an odd balance between what we would call Communism and Feudalism. Individual persons act as feudal units, and vote for the German (archaically Southern) Emperor. Worker's rights have always been big, and environmentalist sentiment is common in the modern state. The economy and trade are strictly government controlled. The state was the first and is one of only a handful (a powerful handful, mind) to have so-called 'Secular Iconoclast' laws. This essentially, not quite, bans advertisement. Packaging for things like food items is uniform and controlled by governmental organizations, with the idea being that people will make purchases based on price and nutritional fact rather then brand loyalty. There is a lot in place to assure even distribution of wealth and as a result the country has virtually no poverty but also extremely few millionaires*. The combination of all this insures that the state has the highest life expectancy in the world, almost 89. The idea of political parties never really took off, and emperors are Elected based on their personal views. The Emperor is kept in check by both a Supreme Court and a Constitution. The individual persons also elect officials known as Volkesgrafen, which have some power in their Volkesgrafschaften. There are 14 Volkesgrafschaften, which directly report to the Emperor. There is also the Vorherrschaft, which is controlled by the Wittelsbach Family and acts as a hereditary Volkesgrafschaften. This exists because of the immense help the Wittelsbachs gave during the Peasant's War- though Wittelsbachs are now expressly forbidden from holding the Imperial throne.
