Weekly Flag Challenge: Discussion & Entries

the only problem with this flag i see is the use of "star of david" type stars...5 points would make more sense, as their socialist symbols

Yeah I know. Unfortunately I'm using Photoshop Elements and can't arrange a ring of objects, and the only image of 8 stars I could find had the sixpoints.

Think of it as the symbol of Asian Communism ;)

Hmm, I may have found a way to do it with 5stars. If I have enough time tonight I'll edit before tomorrows closing date.

EDIT: done!

i kinda see a bit of a problem with the latest challenge...
namely, unless weve read the book, how can we tell what the irp´s policies and such are?=
what political spectrum are they (i know it says they were against the tories on wikia, and destroyed peerge, but does the monarchy still exsist as the british empire does?...or is it a socialist kinda movment?), what kind of power do they still posses? (are they still the main party or have they being removed and replaced by someone else), what symbolim would such a party use?...and why wouldnt they just keep the union flag?

Ok, first try for a flag entry, be indulgent. I've never read the book, but i assume the party is some sort of Liberal/Steampunk thingy.

plus, byron himself defended the luddite movment, so why would his party then go around killing them?

Where's the newest challenge at? I've looked but I must be blind because I can't find the text of it.

Looks like I've had a similar idea to Imladrik but luckily different enough:

The flag bears the symbol of Jupiter/Zeus (representing Mind rising over Matter) in British colours within a golden cogwheel (representing Progress).

Industrial Radical Party

I see very small interest of this thread, so I put my own entry.

Symbolism of the flag:

  • winged, snake-less Hermes Stick is for prosperity,
  • red-white pattern in central circle is taken form Bayron's family CoA background,
  • lighting arrows are for strength,
  • dots below the crest is "Industrial Radical Party" in analytical engines punched cards' code,
  • blue is for hope for a better future.

View attachment 157032Symbolism of the Party's Flag

The "mind's eye" symbolizes the human ability for the experiencing of visual mental imagery and the processing of what the mind sees.

The wheel at the eye's center represents the mental powers humans possess: imagination, intelligence, creativity and enginuity.

The bright flame in front of the wheel represents the human progress and transformation which occur when our mental powers are focused upon the wellbeing of humanity.

Union for Human Progress:
The UHP, although starting as a fringe party of extremists during the era of the expansive social and technological changes instituted by the Industrial Radical Party, it grew to become the IRP´S successor in the early 20th century, gaining support over the IRP due to its tougher, and some would say, crueler, policies against the still few luddite and anti-government supporters throughout the empire, but it wasn’t until they advocated extending the “peace, progress and prosperity”, that the waning IRP had achieved through its tenure, to the rest of the world, “encouraging” the other “less fortunate and backward” nations to push on with the “true human advancement into a future, unified world” through the use of digitization, which they believed only the British Empire could achieve, and whether the other powers liked it or not.
The UHP would eventually achieve their goal by the later half of the 20th century (or the 0 age as they called it), after warring with half the world, and forcing the other half to keel down, unifying the world into a single state, both politically and physically, and eventually allowing themselves to be joined into this digitized system, this mechanical world, all under the watch of the A.I world "protector", “the Eye”.
