A map of the world in 1920 AD, after a different Great War. A little ASB... yeah I guess :p

Uh, why is the kingdom of palastine in Lebanon?

I had some of the colors changed around a bit. I will try to post the improved version whenever possible. ;)

Good idea, but the map needs a bit more work. The OTL borders of states in the American West are largely arbitrary, and therefore butterflies should be considered. Also the border with Mexico is really weird. Before the Mexican War it did not follow any OTL state borders (except in the far west). Look at
Adams_onis_map.png
.

If you want to add Texas to that, I think you should make the border the San Antonio River (perhaps the Nueces) and then the 100th parallel west.

Those are just some suggestions/constructive criticism. I hope I don't come off as rude.

Oh, no, you're fine, although I probably should point out that many of the state borders out West are actually based directly on latitude and longitude readings.

Alternate Germany ~1900

At least Venice isn't German. :D

From an Alternate World War II and Cold War.
It is a little ASB, but I like it.

1945

The Western Allies in 1944/45 make further advances on the Western Front than OTL. More East German territory is occupied, and so that the East German Government when it is formed would still have some territory, Stalin allows for East Germany to consist of Pomerania and Silesia. The Western Allies, to make West Germany more powerful in comparison to East Germany grants ownership of Austria to West Germany. The Soviet Union in 1946 form the Austrian Socialist Republic.

The Kingdom of Italy in 1944 invaded and occupied Albania when the Germans vacated the country. The Western Allies let Italy keep Albania, Northern Libya, and Somalia, mostly to prevent Communist movements in the nation from taking over.

In 1946, the King of Italy abdicates for his son, and after a referendum, The Kingdom of Italy stays as the current government of Italy with 54% support.

The Cold War from that point goes on as it normally did, with some minor differences. East Germany militarily is a little more powerful, as is West Germany.

2010

blankworldUCS%202008%20(1).png

In 1989, the Berlin Wall falls, and the beginning of the end for East Germany starts. At this point, Communist Austria collapses, and the Vienna Republic is formed around Vienna. On November 19th, 1990, East Germany is formally dissolved, and Germany is unified in a capital city of Berlin. The Vienna Republic, which is a rump state surrounding Vienna considers joining Germany, but due to the Post-War treaty from World War II, cannot join Germany.

In 1981, the Italians held a referendum in Somalia, in which 77% of the population formed the Caliphate of Somalia under a new Caliph. Libya in 1985 was made independent as the Sultanate of Libya, under a new Sultan. Due to the Italian rule over the colonies since 1945 being somewhat peaceful, these nations unlike other African nations are much more stable. In 2010, Libya is considered a regional economic power, and a major competitor with the United Arab Emirates. Somalia since 1981 has also formed a stable economy and government, with rare rioting.

In 1991, with the Soviet Union in its final days, Kaliningrad, which isn't a Soviet Socialist Republic, tries to leave the Soviet Union. This leads to the only violent attempt to keep an SSR in the Union. The attempt failed, and in September 1991, Kaliningrad formed the Republic of East Prussia.

The Soviet Union however, survives this catastrophe. Belarus, Georgia (Which is under Martial Law), and Kazakhstan chose to stay in the Soviet Union, and Gorbachev remains the Premier.

During this collapse, the Western World was concentrating on the collapse of the Soviet influence in Eastern Europe. Saddam Hussein, the dictator of Iraq, invaded Kuwait and occupied the nation. The west, while angered, chose to do nothing since more pressing matters were at hand.

In 1994, Gorbachev reformed the Soviet Union in the same way China reformed its economy to fit the West's style of economy. This allowed for the growth of the Soviet economy, and like China, it was barely a Communist State, and followed a more capitalist system.

In 1999, a referendum in Egypt brought about a new Sultanate in Egypt, replacing the democratic system. A similar situation happened in Iraq, when Saddam Hussein declared himself Sultan of Iraq and Kuwait.

In 2001, the Taliban struck the US in New York and Washington, killing over 3,000 Americans. The US then invaded Taliban controlled Afghanistan, and warned Saddam Hussein, who many Americans saw to be also an enemy. The Soviet Union took part in the American invasion of Afghanistan, sending 15,000 soldiers to support the Coalition of the Willing.

In 2003, American forces invaded Iraq, and deposed Saddam Hussein. The Soviet Union also assisted Coalition Forces, allowing for American troops to use the Caucus' for air support.

In 2008, a referendum took place in Albania, which was now a state of the Kingdom of Italy. Albania chose in a 69% vote to remain with Italy. At the same time, a massive recession hit Europe, leading to the collapse of the European Union. France, the United Kingdom, Greece, Spain, and Romania left the EU. The Vienna Republic joined the European Union during that year in an attempt to help its economy, which was not doing well.

The Western Powers in 2009 decided to allow the Vienna Republic to do a referendum on weather or not to join Germany, which would be held in 2010. On October 15th, 2010, the Vienna Republic voted with 89% approval to join Germany.

If the US took Ontario and Quebec, would they also have took Nova Scotia too?

More than likely especially when you consider that several uprisings and raids were organized in the Maritimes not only during the War of 1812 but also during the ARW.

I guess what I'm wondering is, if the U.S. did take Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia, wouldn't they have eventually taken the rest of Canada too?

a map of Indonesia in my ATL

the Chinese Federation comes to control Indonesia following the Pacific War (analogous to Japan's involvement in WW2, minus the US--theyre allied ITTL) when Japan moves out of Indonesia. the Chinese (red) took advantage of this and moved in to annex the region, taking most of the islands without a fight; there's no permanent colonial government as the Dutch Empire does not exist. only Java (white; that color is used for all "independent" countries) resisted, eventually requesting help from Britannia to fend off the Chinese. a few Australian battleships were dispatched and the Republic of Java was declared and recognized by the League of Nations in 1949. Java is something of a successor state to the Dutch colonial empire ITTL, as is the Boer Confederation at the other end of the Indian Ocean. also on this map is the Philippines (yellow), which is formally ratified as part of the United States of North America, the Dominion of Australia (pale red) which is still a possession of Britannia, Singapore (also part of Britannia), and parts of the Chinese Federation on the continent, including the provinces of Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Indochina. each of the Indonesian islands is treated as its own province but is subject to a governor of the entire region.

now, id actually like some help here: i need some romanized chinese names for each of the chinese provinces on the map here:

  1. Indochina (or Vietnam)
  2. Cambodia
  3. Thailand
  4. Malaysia
  5. Sumatra
  6. Sulawesi
  7. Borneo
the other, smaller islands of Indonesia would be governed by the larger islands that they are regarded as being part of IOTL. any ideas, or a guide to a romanized chinese translator?

Well, new thread, so I guess I owe a map... :)

This one is inspired by an old soc.history.what-if scenario called "Lest Anarchy Fall". Inspired, I say, since I don't remember much of it and the google groups archives are a horror to search.

It's been a revolutionary century, from anarchist king-exploding to the second US civil war. Germany won an alt-WWI on points thanks to political troubles in France, did well indeed in the Kaiser's eastwards Crusade Against Communism in the late 20s and early 30s, and found to its distress that its delivery systems for nuclear weapons were not as effective as British ones in the 1950s. (Von Braun died in a ditch outside Kazan in this world).

The US had a more powerful Left, a more paranoid Right, and less sensible leadership during its Great Depression-equivalent: the fallout from the eventual crisis was...unpleasant. The independent west coast eventually rejoined with the restoration of working democracy in Washington, but the South and North had too many differences.

Mao decided to stay inside the Guomindang Big Tent and eventually succeeded in booting Chiang out. In the long run, the Republic would not benefit from his...unique management style, heroic leadership during the Japanese invasion or not.

Britain only lost a few million people, and avoided outright revolution, although the "Emergency" lasted over a decade: but holding onto the Empire, of course, was pretty much impossible at that point...

My entry for the new MoF contest.

No real background...just a regional map of a future post-apocolyptic Mexican Empire and its expansion over time. First consolidating inner Mexico, then the coasts, then the Maya Empire, then the great northern expansions into the Mexican wastes. This led to conflict with the Cartels which had become de facto kingdoms by this point and their annexation (along with a naval take over of the unsavory port of Nueva Orleans). Now Mexico is at odds with its white english speaking neighbors...namely the New Californian Republic (), the Texan Confederation, and the Southeastern states...especially Louisiana.

The conflict between white/english and hispanic/spanish peoples has led the Mexican Empire to take a fascist approach with concentration and in extreme cases extermination of people that refuse to convert to Catholicism and learn Spanish (or aren't "Mexican" enough for local administrators). This has also spread to the always rebellious Maya lands in the south.

You'll also notice the presence of three vassal states within the empire...the Duchy of Baja, the Duchy of Valles, and the Kingdom of Tejas (created from the Cartel Kingdoms of Nueva Laredo and San Antonio). All under the firm control of the Mexican Emperor of course
