That's the TL where a bunch more white people move to Africa and make everything better, right? :p Great map.

I wouldn't say things are better for the indigenous Africans in his timeline. In the long run, things might end up worse for everyone involved, since there is a far more entrenched White minority that will be very reluctant to cede any power, making long, violent, conflict inevitable.

Probably never going to finish this but I felt like sharing.

A quite different world from our own. Technology is roughly 1950s, and
they're preparing the nukes in case of a war. In reality China is the
strongest power on earth, but they're concerned only with their Asian
sphere of influence, only mildly concerned about foreign affairs for fear of a
nuclear winter. The Russians used to be the top power, but a nasty fight a
decade and a half earlier stole half their empire and saw them fall to
revolution. New France meanwhile has had the French king in exile since
the generation before the Russian War when Russia and Germany had allied
against France, Iberia, and the now extinct Ottomans. Lastly the
Collectivists are trying to push a Worker's Paradise across the world, but
apart from some university students and the Indians who only vaguely
follow the idea, they've had minimal success.

Really nice, Beedok.

A few questions:
1.Aside from the Dutch, who did those ex-colonies along the east coast of North America belong to? Britain?
2.Judging from the lines and colors, I would assume that the French managed to pull off an *Armada vs. Britain, and the Dutch later “liberated” England when the Germans took down France?
3.Is that a mega-Saxony in north Germany?
4.So are there a lot of Russians in *Outer Manchuria?
5.I’d assume those states in the SW are ex-Mexican: is Mexico gone stupid with irredentism?
6.Who did New Zealand used to belong to?
7.Who are the folks in note 4?

Minor quibble: I’d expect a few more states in the Sahel. After all, no reason to believe the OTL gunpowder-state building would not continue. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a8/Scramble-for-Africa-1880-1913.png

Map for Fleetlord's Election Map Thread. I couldn't help myself and butterflied the states in the west a bit. but I assure people that it was cleverly done so all the elections came out just the same. Really. Would I lie?

A bit of background:

In this world, the US political party system early on developed into a more complex and fluid one, with multiple parties coming and going over the years, and politics often going in directions far more radical than OTL. An earlier *Confederate rebellion was temporarily successful, only to be reconquered soon after: a longer, more drawn-out and often brutal Reconstruction eventually left African Americans in a stronger position than OTL. A bloody Red rebellion almost took control of the country, and an underground hard-right movement put two would-be tyrants in the white house, and brought the US into a war which concluded with New Orleans, Norfolk, New York, Los Angeles and Columbia (this worlds Washington DC equivalent) in radioactive ruin.

A Grossdeutsche German unification under the Habsburgs led to a German-dominated Europe with the US and UK distracted by America’s red rebellion: they have never lost their leading position, although the costs of two massive wars (known as the Global War and the Madness War, when the US went wacky) have led to a Europe far more an alliance of equals. France had a bad 20th century, as did the UK, which suffered a successful left-wing Syndicalist revolt. Syndicalism, however, failed to catch on globally, with Integralism, a more fascism-like (but non-racist) movement originating in Brazil came to dominate much of OTL’s “third world” and most of Asia. Integralist Japan grasped at superpower status, failed to quite make it, and jumped ship on the Integralist Alliance when it became clear that it’s long-term destiny was “Chinese sidekick.”

Italian unification was delayed, with the Kingdom (later Republic) of the Two Sicilies remaining outside, and Rome is a Free City reigned over (but not ruled by) the Pope. The Ottoman Empire fell apart when Islamic union was replaced by a Turkish nationalism which put Arabs firmly in the Number Two spot. The non-British parts of the no-longer-British empire tried to keep the show on the road after the Syndicalists took the UK, but really didn’t have the heart to keep calling it the Empire after India and Australia broke off.

The Syndicalist regime in the UK fell in the 1970s after half a century in power due to US nuclear bombardment during the Madness War, and in a struggle to return to “national roots” one of the more personable members of the royal family in exile was called back to add some luster to the new state and provide a link between Scotland and England (the government at the time sitting in Glasgow as the largest non-radioactive urban center in the isle).
The end of the last pseudo-Integralist regime in Brazil and the socialist, democratic revolution has unfortunately ended in a military regime, but they’re cooperative with US efforts to maintain the peace in South America. Most of the world’s nations have joined the League of Nations by this point, although some still grumble that it is a German Plot.

The US was in the doghouse for a while after the Madness War and surrender to the European coalition, but is once again a respected part of the global community and in any event too big economically to do without. The New Cities built to rehouse survivors of the nuclear bombings are finally doing well economically, while at the same time those residents which did _not_ flee [1] are trying to redeem the reputations of their home towns as something other than radioactive wastelands probably inhabited by mutants or something. The Democracy party tries to move the US in the direction of less socialism and more unfettered capitalism (admittedly from a starting point well to the left of OTL) while the Progressive (bland, centrist), Green (what it says), Rebirth (New Left idealists) and New Union (Old Left) parties grumble and bide their time for the 1994 election. An American will walk on the Moon next year, but a certain degree of panic is starting to spread through the national space agency as rumors spread of a really fancy new German rocket.

Meanwhile, Integralist China [2] broods. Japanese defection from the block, India’s “we’re going to concentrate on our problems, ‘mm ok?” attitude, and a humiliation over Korea have weakened the Integralist block and China’s leadership role within it. Largely unbeknownst to the outside world, a seemingly inward-turned China has seen since the Unfortunately and Purely Accidental Death of Premier Soong during the Korean crisis an intensified struggle between radical and moderate factions: and if the radicals win, they have plans. Big plans. Plans which will involve, among other things, a lot of digging. And fire. Can’t forget the fire.

[1] With pre-fusion tech nukes, the greater parts of the cities hit weren’t completely wrecked, and whille fears of radiation let to people departing from areas still relatively safe, more “spread” cities retained more residents: Old Los Angeles is in fact rather larger than New Angeles, occupying nearly half of the pre-war cities area, while New York City was largely reduced to Queens and Staten Island.

[2] Although China’s economy is more left-wing than OTL 2015, it’s never been through the unpleasantness of Maoism, and is rich enough to be considered a major power, if not quite on the same level as the US or the European Accord.

Yasssss.

I have one question/quibble -- I have a hard time telling two of the shades of pink apart; are the pink blobs in Africa what's left of the Syndies or the remaining non-Canuckistani bits of the Empire?

Background :

Even tho with the collapse of west Eastern cultures, civilisation continues on in east Eastern and Western continents. The advent of the Third Cold War approx 2130 starts with the Panemerican aggression against Nea So Copros's use of fabricants. They state of slavery and demand equality, but the Juche upstrata, however, states Panemerica as sponsors of Unionism amongst the stratum. Thru the following decades, small skirmishes across Filipinas, Australasia, and Siberia. Captured kodaks indicate espionage, sabotage, and other terror acts between the two polities. Only Hawaii, or dubbed « the island of Xultation » after upstrata popjoke of fabricants, remains a sanctuary of negotiation and neutrality. By 2154, Unionist activity spark more concern leading to the final nuclear exchange between the two polities and the destruction of every major city. All except « The Capitol » are destroyed. The Capitol would remain to allocate much of former Panemerican districts. Nea So Copros would remain dead for the foreseeable future.

Awesome, I loved Cloud Atlas and it's a good map too although I could have sworn that the book gave the Japanese cities more Korean names. It's been forever since I read it though.

It is a mix of Cloud Atlas and the Hunger Games. This actually provides the background of the fall and rise of Panem after the ashes of a nuclear exchange. Only the Capitol ( Salt Lake City ) survives and allocated 13 of the 21 districts of former Panemerica ( dubbed after Pan-America ).

Fantastic map as always, Bruce. Can't help but notice you've a bit of a habit of mixing up the persian gulf and the red sea. I suppose against all evidence to the contrary, that you too are mortal. :D

Oops. You know, if someone asked me so I had to think about it, I'd get it right, but if I just write stuff down without thinking about it, I become Ignoramus McNutt all a sudden.

My MotF Entry. It so somewhat sparse, but its my first MotF

In a world where Mohammed was never born, the middle ages never ended for Europe. Western Europe never rediscovered the works of the Romans and Greeks, and stayed backwards. Butterflies meant that William of Normandy never invaded Britain, the Island remained divided into the Kingdoms of Merica, Northumbria, Kent, Scotland, Wales, Anglia, and the Kingdom of the Saxons (consolidation of OTL Wessex, Essex, and Sussex). The Island remained backwards until the middle of the 1600s. By this time Chinese merchants had started to come to European ports, looking to trade. China traded primarily with the Kingdom of Saxons, Kent, Anglia, and Wales. By the early 1700s the Aztec Empire (China discovered America much later than OTL, and colonized it less aggressively, so the Aztecs, Incas, and others were able to survive) also started to arrive and trade. By the early 1800s both countries were vying for influence in the British Kingdoms to get supplies to fund their industrial revolutions.

By the 1800s the Aztecs and Chinese agreed to divide the British Isles. The Map below show the division. The Aztecs got Ireland and Scotland, and influence in Northumbria, and in return China got OTL England and Wales. Over the next few years the isles were pacified. During this time the Native British Culture has been largely replaced, with most people only speaking Nahuatl or Chinese. However, European ideas have survived in interesting ways, for instance the Aztec Empire has adopted the Latin Alphabet as their script as it is much easier to use than traditional Nahuatl Pictographs.

Really nice, Beedok.
Thank you.:)
A few questions:
1.Aside from the Dutch, who did those ex-colonies along the east coast of North America belong to? Britain?
Swedes, Danes, Spaniards, and Brits. It's quite a diverse region.
2.Judging from the lines and colors, I would assume that the French managed to pull off an *Armada vs. Britain, and the Dutch later “liberated” England when the Germans took down France?
Actually Britain had sided with Russia during the Russian war and managed to tick of the Dutch with the blockade of Germany that wound up including the Netherlands in practice. It was a joint Dutch-"Roman" invasion. The French had never quite swatted the English fly.
3.Is that a mega-Saxony in north Germany?
Saxony-Brandenburg, yes. They had some of OTL's Prussia's luck. Not all of it though.
4.So are there a lot of Russians in *Outer Manchuria?
A couple million these days. Most had lived in Russian China and Inner Manchuria before the Chinese marched back up North. Housing shortages remain a bit of an issue.
5.I’d assume those states in the SW are ex-Mexican: is Mexico gone stupid with irredentism?
Ex-Iberian at least (pealed off before Mexico could make a break for it). The Mexicans are a bit ambitious, and have a decent amount of popular support in those states.
6.Who did New Zealand used to belong to?
It was French, it just doesn't have interest in backing New France's military policies, though stays close to Big Brother Canada because it's sort of lonely.

7.Who are the folks in note 4?
Former Portuguese settlers who didn't go for the whole 'Collectivism' Thing (slave owners and such at the time, these days just corrupt and stratified). Have debated warming up to the Dutch, but it hasn't happened yet.

Minor quibble: I’d expect a few more states in the Sahel. After all, no reason to believe the OTL gunpowder-state building would not continue. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a8/Scramble-for-Africa-1880-1913.png

Blame the Nuclear Line. The 'Romans' and 'Canadians' kept get more paranoid and the Sahel suffered. Also the West African Federation attracted lots of immigrants due to all their oil money and growing industrial capacity.

.

...so there was essentially a "Roman"-Dutch 'Partition of Britain?" Seems to me that the English will be a lot more discontented in that situation: I foresee interesting times for the Dutch.

Ooh, that's a nice map and scenario. What's the wider world like?
