As the title says, what are some other notable post ww1 events which could have snowballed into a conflict that could reach a scale similar to World War 2? This alt ww2 doesn't need to be as deadly as otl ww2, but it should still involve a significant portion of the nations of the world at the time.

The challenge here is to have the Weimar Republic survive and yet still start a Second World War. Germany must remain a democracy (at least on paper), though it can still be a "democracy" in a similar way to how modern Russia is a "democracy".
