    In 1880, the frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination was the general election runner up from 1876: Samuel Tilden. However, Tilden declined to run and retired from politics. But what if he ran in 1880? Would he get the Democratic nomination? If so, would he beat James Garfield?
