  1. In the Center of the World: An Etruscan Timeline.

Very interested in anything language related here.
  2. In the Congo, what Are Some Barriers to Early Advanced Civilization
Threadmarks: Collected Reasonings for Reference Later

Alright, having recently regained my ability to write, I am going to practice by making a post that hopefully will be found useful. I will collate all of the reasons given in this thread for why complex settled societies did not take root here, for the purpose of future TLs. Who knows, I may...
  3. Bisringkhal-An Assam Timeline

I mean, it very clearly says why, in the ban notice. Incidentally if someone who was dilligently reading this wants to take this as a sign to learn enough Assamese history to realize their own vision of how events continue, this is your sign.
  4. “Instant empires” that never were?

There is a timeline about this where he is more successful! I wish I could remember its name. It was a written timeline not just a discussion.
  5. How to have earliest possible sustained contact between Americas and Europe?

The question I put forward is in the title. To elaborate: What would have to happen, within the limits of forum: Before 1900, for sustained contact with the Americas to occur as early as possible? My personal avenue of inquiry would be finding out what exactly is necessary for a caravel-like...
  6. WI: S E Asia is one country

Aung San, before his untimely death, was trying to engender an ideology that would appeal to all the disparate and unrelated peoples of Burma, which emphasized the land itself and each person's connection to it, and to their shared history and trauma. The power of shared trauma especially should...
  7. When did Sogdian language go extinct?

Er, it didn't. Yaghnobi is still alive, though not well.
  8. In the Congo, what Are Some Barriers to Early Advanced Civilization

Thank you very much, is there anything that has not yet been mentioned? This is enlightening. As well, are there any "easy" [from an alt-hist standpoint] solutions or possible butterflies that come off the top of the head to encourage growth despite the factors mentioned? For instance, earlier...
  9. In the Congo, what Are Some Barriers to Early Advanced Civilization

Something that I have heard from geopolitically savvy and politically inclined friends and colleagues of mine are frequent laments about how resource rich the Congo is. One of them constantly asks me why the Congo of all places is and was not more economically advanced in the past. Now, I am of...
  10. What languages were spoken in today's Syria/Jordan/Iraq before the Islamic conquest?

also just a reminder that for the first two centuries after the islamic conquests not much really changed.
  11. What languages were spoken in today's Syria/Jordan/Iraq before the Islamic conquest?

Largely Aramaic dialects, maybe even a small amount of greek, Canaanite, or Amoritic languages, though the chances of the latter two are kinda slim. [Amoritic includes Ugaritic, Canaanite are close relatives of Hebrew/Phoenician etc.]
  12. What languages were spoken in today's Syria/Jordan/Iraq before the Islamic conquest?

There was also a smattering of Nabataean, Pre-Islamic Arabic dialect with heavy Aramaic influence. Its main zone of concentration was around Petra.
  13. What happens if Alexander the Great goes West instead of East?

While this is absolutely right, that's still only one empire across a sea (unless you go by land which involves conquering egypt and crossing a desert anyway) If Alexander did go west, that would be the principle way in which to do it.
  14. Would the Classical Romans have had the means to create something like the Dardanelles gun?

I honestly dont think so. As I understand it, the medieval era was an extremely important period in terms of the development of metallurgy and the refining of steel. 700 years of that, plus the renaissance seeing the refinement of techniques required to make better gunpowder weapons (because...
  15. AHC: Screw Christianity as much as possible with PODs after 1800

No no, I misremembered. The Moderators have access to the full history. I asked them to check because I thought I was being gaslit, but I just fooled myself I guess.
  16. AHC: Screw Christianity as much as possible with PODs after 1800

I was wrong then, and apologize.
  17. AHC: Screw Christianity as much as possible with PODs after 1800

It's okay I was just explaining myself.
  18. AHC: Screw Christianity as much as possible with PODs after 1800

The OP was originally asking to weaken it to the point of near destruction, an actual end-goal of near destruction was specified. The post was edited when this was untenable. I posted very early after the thread went up.
  19. AHC: Screw Christianity as much as possible with PODs after 1800

Come to think of it, multiple anti-christian PODs might work
  20. AHC: Screw Christianity as much as possible with PODs after 1800

I . . . I don't think this is actually possible. I mean, interesting creative restriction, but I just cant think of a way in which it could logically be done. I thought of another faith taking precedence, which still wouldnt be a screw at all, or would not be able to become a screw in 200 years...
