  1. Operation Long Jump

Does anyone know of some good sources I can use to look up Soviet leaders aside from Stalin during WWII? Or ones on British politics at the time?
  2. Operation Long Jump

I have been looking into Operation Long Jump, the failed Nazi plot to assassinate Churchill, Stalin, and FDR at the Tehran Conference. Henry Wallace would have become president if FDR had been killed. However, I'm unsure who might lead England and Russia, especially considering all of the other...
  3. A Nation Interrupted

Hi. Some spoilers included. I’m about halfway through ‘A Nation Interrupted’. In case you aren’t familiar with it, it’s about the south winning the Civil War (coincidentally it involves letter 191 just as in the Turtledove series). Anyway, the south and the north both fight the Nazis together...
  4. Earliest US Civil War could have happened?

Could the United States have had a civil war due to slavery closer to the American Revolutionary War?
  5. WI: Trotsky instead of Stalin

Thank you so much for this. I only check in to this website every now and then and hadn't realized that this topic had been discussed so many times. Guess there goes that timeline I was trying to come up with of a Trotsky led USSR trying to stir up a communist revolution in Nazi Germany. Thought...
  6. WI: Trotsky instead of Stalin

What if Trotsky had been a little tougher and decided to quash Stalin while he still had the opportunity through use of the Red Army? Specifically, I know that Trotsky was more into spreading communism than supporting a lone, communist nation. Would a Premier Trotsky have become a warmongerer or...
  7. WWII with USSR as an enemy of US

Trotsky could probably have done that had he been willing to fight dirty against Stalin and co and use the Red Army while he still had some control.
  8. WWII with USSR as an enemy of US

I just saw Mussolini was a former socialist. Could he have helped bring communism to Italy and join the USSR that way? More USSR power equals more likely chance that US and co would team up with fascist Germany, right?
  9. WWII with USSR as an enemy of US

Interesting idea. I'm going to look into that.
  10. WWII with USSR as an enemy of US

Sounds complicated to have a three way war.
  11. WWII with USSR as an enemy of US

So maybe have Hitler die in WWII or thereabout?
  12. WWII with USSR as an enemy of US

Just out of curiosity, what would have caused the US and the USSR to go to war in the Second World War, maybe even team up with Germany? I understand that FDR really wanted to have good terms with the Soviets. I’m thinking maybe Hitler is assassinated, Germany goes to war in the East but not the...
  13. WI: Private Henry Tandey had shot and killed Adolph Hitler in WWI?

Interesting idea. Do you think atomic weapons would play a role in this?
  14. WI: Private Henry Tandey had shot and killed Adolph Hitler in WWI?

What role would the US play, if any?
  15. What if the US Electoral College was abolished in 1970?

In 1970 there was an attempt to abolish the electoral college via a new amendment. In OTL it passed the House, but died in a filibuster in the senate. What if this constitutional amendment had passed? What if Al Gore had become president or would things have butterflied before the 2000 election?
  16. WI: Private Henry Tandey had shot and killed Adolph Hitler in WWI?

Do you think Himmler might end up on top? I just ordered a book on all of the different assassination plots against Hitler. What I'm interested in figuring out is how WWII might have butterflied had Hitler died after the nazi's came to power, but before they started getting too aggressive with...
  17. WI: Private Henry Tandey had shot and killed Adolph Hitler in WWI?

Never mind. I just did some more research and learned that this incident never actually occurred.
  18. WI: Private Henry Tandey had shot and killed Adolph Hitler in WWI?

Personally, I feel that much of what happened after WWI would still have happened. But how much do you think would have changed later on if Hitler hadn't survived WWI?
  19. Worst Case non-nuclear scenario for Cold War?

What is the worst that could have happened for the Cold War that doesn't end in a nuclear exchange? I feel that nuclear war is overused as a trope for the Cold War. Not saying it wasn't a real possibility.
  20. Stalin offer peace treaty to Hitler in 1941?

There's always North Africa and the middle east. That was 1940- 1943 OTL. The Germans could concentrate more on Africa if they didn't need to worry about as much of a campaign to the East.
