  1. Divide the United States into East and West.

Pet Peeve Alert! /rant incoming: No there is not way under your posted guidelines that would result in this map. Why? Because if the US was divided by a "Civil War" then all those nice straight-ish 'borders' between the States are gone! Sorry but I really dislike such "maps" because they don't...
  2. A Sound of Thunder: The Rise of the Soviet Superbooster

Keep in mind that the Shuttle almost got canceled several time in OTL with the Cold War still an ongoing "threat". (See this thread for how Carter saved the Shuttle) Of course if Congress ends up authorizing and paying for "Freedom" it's probably going to be the "Program of Record" focusing...
  3. Could nuclear weapons have gotten Germany to surrender in 45-47 without a Western Allies invasion of Germany?

Problem is those first few bombs are also training and data gathering flights which means you can't drop very many as you don't have very many at that point. And it's not alone really as you have several other bombers including ones that will accompany the dropping aircraft almost all the way...
  4. Could nuclear weapons have gotten Germany to surrender in 45-47 without a Western Allies invasion of Germany?

Something to keep in mind is nukes or no-nukes the Allies were going to put troops into Germany either way. Unconditional surrender AND occupation were both stipulated from early one as this was the second time in a single generation that Germany had gone walk-about and everyone was wanting to...
  5. What Can Japan Do To Improve The Performance Of Its WW2 Submarine Fleet?

Submarine aircraft carriers being a "topic bridge"? :) Randy
  6. Could nuclear weapons have gotten Germany to surrender in 45-47 without a Western Allies invasion of Germany?

Threats of air dropping kegs of American 3.2 beer? :) Randy
  7. For the Republic: A History of the Second American Civil War

But unfortunate rumors of "bootleg" copies of the film continued to surface and cause havoc (along with nausea and nervous breakdowns) around the world for the next several decades... Randy (who can't help but to instigate :) )
  8. For the Republic: A History of the Second American Civil War

In late 1935 the various Studio heads in Hollywood, concerned with dropping profits from film distribution gathered in a meeting to decide what to do about it. Later that same month it's announce that in Summer of 1936 they will jointly release a new blockbuster film; "The Second American Civil...
  9. Robert Hayes has a more successful Hollywood career?

Eh I think that was a joke playing off his "Airplane!" drinking problem :) (And not many in Hollywood would actually admit to such a problem if they DID have it :) ) Randy
  10. Scorpion's Tale - A World Unseen

    Welcome back
  11. Bush,Congress,Cabinet killed in 9/11

No as alspug noted the main day-to-day decisions are by the in-place bureaucracy with not many major decisions by the "higher ups" needed for most cases. And in this case we've got an in-place "continuation of government" plan of action that can be brought into play and pretty much everyone...
  12. WI: Falcon Heavy to Mars

I have to laugh for the fact that illustrations from Kerbal Space Program are now acceptable and I'm here for it :) Randy
  13. WI: Falcon Heavy to Mars

Less a bump and more an interesting item that I found that there WAS actually a well thought out and mapped possible "Mission to Mars" using Falcon rockets. This 2014 study planned both a precursor mission using a single Falcon 9 as well as a manned mission using Falcon Heavy and NTR propulsion...
  14. Operation Unthinkable in Mid-April 1945 - Germany/US/UK coming together

Well we do know that the American Army and German Army CAN fight together, but it was the Nazi's, (specifically the SS) they fought against :) Randy
  15. Would Japan surrender conditionally without an invasion or atomic bombs?

Something to keep in mind is that the Japanese apparently have the ability to build indestructible objects is they chose: (Gate actualy but you get the idea :) ) Randy
  16. Bush,Congress,Cabinet killed in 9/11

The same people who do it normally, the President and Congress. (In this case once the ad-hoc Congress is seated) The Assistant/Deputy positions are there for a reason as those appointed to those positions are as aware of the decision pipeline as the main appointee would be specifically so they...
  17. Sequel de Mayo (Cinco de Mayo, Vol. II)

The United Kingdom of Greater Ireland and "so-so" Britain, and maybe a few other countries, oh yes and those stubborn "Colonials" that keep yapping on and on about some "tea party" (and why we not invited?) and "July 4th", you know... Southern Canada or some such. Randy :)
  18. Bush,Congress,Cabinet killed in 9/11

Most cabinet positions are related more to someone that the President "knows/likes" who interfaces between the Administration and the overall government bureaucracy. The Cabinet position will have someone from the various agencies that can be "acting" whatever Cabinet position is needed to fill...
  19. Bush,Congress,Cabinet killed in 9/11

The VP (Cheney) takes over, organizes an interim Congress with the help of the State governments. Getting the Cabinet too doesn't make a lot of sense a they are, by design, usually not all together. Getting them "all" in one building is a really small percentage, not zero but damn close. For...
  20. Time After Time: Imprints of the Space Transportation System Booster

There was a patent for a similar design: Supposedly it takes into account the aerodynamic stress as well as removing the SRB's from interacting with the ET Randy
