  1. Could nuclear weapons have gotten Germany to surrender in 45-47 without a Western Allies invasion of Germany?

Err, the Japanese were planning on arming millions of civilians with spears, so I doubt your assertion that the Germans were more stubborn. As for the synfuels plants, they were large industrial complexes built above ground in prewar. I am not aware of any built after the war started or...
  2. Could nuclear weapons have gotten Germany to surrender in 45-47 without a Western Allies invasion of Germany?

Thanks and I agree with much of this. I do have a few quibbles. Nobody would be preparing to reduce strategic bomber efforts because few if any of those decision-makers knew about the bomb and the ones that did would realize it would raise questions about why. Those not in the know would be...
  3. Could nuclear weapons have gotten Germany to surrender in 45-47 without a Western Allies invasion of Germany?

Didn't Anglo-American/Nazi War start out in post -1900 or was it originally ASB?
  4. Could nuclear weapons have gotten Germany to surrender in 45-47 without a Western Allies invasion of Germany?

Again, the purpose of the thread was to ask the question if a Germany that still ran most of Europe in 1945 could be forced to surrender by nuclear weapons. The exact reason why it survived this long is less relevant. Instead of better German submarines, how about better German performance on...
  5. Could nuclear weapons have gotten Germany to surrender in 45-47 without a Western Allies invasion of Germany?

In fairness to the author of the original scenario, I fully expect allied technology continues to develop as well. That TL is in Jan 1941, so there are lots of things yet to happen. My question is whether Germany has any chance of avoiding a surrender. I doubt it because the longer it lasts...
  6. Could nuclear weapons have gotten Germany to surrender in 45-47 without a Western Allies invasion of Germany?

Err, no. Tracers on heavy shell just provide a psychological impact when first used. After that, they are no more impressive than the flak bursts. They certainly don't increase the damage at all. If a plane takes a direct hit from a flak shell, it is probably already dead, so any increased...
  7. Could nuclear weapons have gotten Germany to surrender in 45-47 without a Western Allies invasion of Germany?

Good point, especially since electrical plants are going to be targeted on general principles. It is hard to run a modern economy without electricity. I supposed you could used local small coal fired plants to power individual factories, but that is inefficient and requires transporting coal to...
  8. Could nuclear weapons have gotten Germany to surrender in 45-47 without a Western Allies invasion of Germany?

I agree that the best chance of getting Germany to quit is if a nuke on Berlin kills Hitler. The rest of the Germans were loyalty to him and wouldn't quit until he was gone. Err, no. AFIAK the allies were contemplating using the bomb on Germany. Germany didn't get nuked because it surrendered...
  9. Could nuclear weapons have gotten Germany to surrender in 45-47 without a Western Allies invasion of Germany?

In the ASB forum, there is an ongoing thread regarding the impact of a seriously improved German U-boat campaign. The thread is as follows: https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/the-slimmest-of-victories-rewrite-of-the-narrowest-of-margins-ww2-u-boat-atl.546418/ Given the premise...
  10. An Age of Miracles III: The Romans Endure

Good update, although I think Irene is overly pessimistic. If they can defect in the near future, I think Sophia would be smart enough to jump on the propaganda value and treat them well, so as to not discourage future defections. The think is they need to defect sooner rather than later, to...
  11. Under the Southern Cross we Stand, a sprig of Wattle in our hand

I don't know much about the fighting between Russia and the Ottoman Empire in WW1. Was it that much of a Ottoman disaster in OTL?
  12. Under the Southern Cross we Stand, a sprig of Wattle in our hand

Ouch, clearly doing a better job of murdering than OTL just reduced the risk. It certainly didn't eliminate it.
  13. Under the Southern Cross we Stand, a sprig of Wattle in our hand

Interesting, I can see the Japanese trying to get what they can from China, but the Protectorate contemplating a possible war in the Pacific while they are involved in Europe is different. I wonder if they will need to pull their ships back and how that will affect the operations at the straits?
  14. An Age of Miracles III: The Romans Endure

Interesting to see credit unions appearing this early and a Roman response to enclosures that isn't just let them happen. Do the loans approach modern micro-finance concepts?
  15. Under the Southern Cross we Stand, a sprig of Wattle in our hand

No problem and thanks for the explanation. As for the Dardanelles, hopefully, they will not screw things up as badly as in OTL. Putting at least some naval crews on the minesweepers is a step forwards, but committing less than 20% of the available battleships to the operation suggests a certain...
  16. An Age of Miracles III: The Romans Endure

Again, thanks for keeping us informed.
  17. An Age of Miracles III: The Romans Endure

Seconded. Take your time, real life comes first. Thanks for keeping us informed. Good stuff like yours is always worth waiting for.
  18. An Age of Miracles III: The Romans Endure

I think you can block people so you don't see their posts, but I doubt you can selectively choose who sees your posts.
  19. An Age of Miracles III: The Romans Endure

Err, pretty sure by surviving as a major power for over two centuries past its historical demise, the Byzantines ITTL are doing vastly better than OTL. They have humbled the Ottomans who destroyed them in OTL and wrecked their other great opponent, Venice.
