  7. WI: Poland and Lithuania Remain Separate

In 1444 Sophia of Halshany was still alive, so she would likely mediate between her sons. I agree with Augenis, that Władysław III's decisive victory is not possible at that point.
  8. WI: Poland and Lithuania Remain Separate

BTW while Aleksander was Grand Duke of Lithuania, Jan Olbracht titled himself Supreme Duke of Lithuania (like his grandfather Jogaila did when Vytautas was Grand Duke).
  9. List of Alternate Monarchs and Aristocratic Lineage II

But still, Spanish Habsburg without a drop of Jagiellon blood is still not the best candidate to start Polish Habsburg line.
  10. List of Alternate Monarchs and Aristocratic Lineage II

But Sigismund Augustus would side with executionists anyway if he had no heir, and if he had a heir then Habsburgs would still not get the throne for obvious reason.
  11. List of Alternate Monarchs and Aristocratic Lineage II

Easy mode is: Sigismund Augustus has a daughter, whom he married to Archduke, and instead of pursuing Union of Lublin hand in hand with Executionists, he try to install his daughter and son-in-law on Lithuanian throne.
  12. List of Alternate Monarchs and Aristocratic Lineage II

As I've mentioned: -they were associated with absolutism -being chidless Sigismund Augustus sided with Executionist movement, thus weakened magnates (who were main support base for Habsburgs in Bohemia and Hungary) -3rd quarter of 16th century is peak of Reformation in Poland. Nobles could elect anyone, there were plenty of candidates other than Habsburg and Valois, Valois just happened to be strongest ant-Habsburg candidate, so he gained support of whole camp, these people would support strongest ant-Habsburg option in every case, be it Duke of Ferrara or some...
  14. List of Alternate Monarchs and Aristocratic Lineage II

Only Sigismund Augustus' daughter married to Archduke could really help Habsburgs, otherwise King is going to follow OTL path and side with Executionist movement. And 3rd quarter of 16th century is bad time for Habsburg on Polish throne for several reasons-rise of middle nobility, who feared...
  15. List of Alternate Monarchs and Aristocratic Lineage II

He had plans: Mecklenburg, Saxony, Bavaria... and Sophia would marry son of her OTL husband. And Habsburgs at the time were despised so much in Poland, that Poles would rather elect someone unrelated under condition that he'll marry Sigismund's sister.
  16. List of Alternate Monarchs and Aristocratic Lineage II

Still, it does not resemble conflict over Barbara. Sigismund feared, that backlash against Barbara, who was hated by nobles and clergy, could cost him the throne (unlikely to happen, but he feared such scenario) and brother-in-law could be potential danger.
  17. List of Alternate Monarchs and Aristocratic Lineage II

S Not only this. If Sigismund Augustus IS married to Margaret of France, who outlives him, he would never marry Barbara Radziwiłł and thus would avoid scandal and conflict with rest of his family, which means his sister should marry much earlier and he should have plenty of adult nephews by 1572.
  18. List of Alternate Monarchs and Aristocratic Lineage II

And Hungary? He is not male line descendant of any Hungarian king, so Hungarians are free to elect anyone after death of childless Ferdinand. And Habsburgs were disliked in Poland, so John needs really good claim to counter it.
  19. WI: Vladimir the Great converts to Karaite Judaism

And if somehow he imposed Judaism successfully with its dietary laws then Rus' would have lower population density than nearby Christian countries.
  20. WI: Vladimir the Great converts to Karaite Judaism

Nope. Early Piasts often intermarried with Rurikids. Eastern Schism happened much later than Vladimir's conversion and has not affected whole Christendom immediately.
