Crusader Kings II - Paradox Entertainement (02/12)

In a multiplayer game, I was playing as the Bön Tibetan kingdom of U-Tsang in the Old Gods start. The Buddhist Bengali kingdom of Pala declared a holy war against me to seize one of my mountainous border counties. Other Bön pagan rulers rallied to my defense (including a plucky one-holding count...

Crusader Kings II - Paradox Entertainement (02/12)

Likewise! I actually like multiplayer better, and credit it for reigniting my interest in this game. I hadn't played CK2 in about at least year, and after crushing my gaming friend into fine paste one too many times in Wargame: Red Dragon, he wanted to switch things up to something new. CK2 was...

Crusader Kings II - Paradox Entertainement (02/12)

I am playing a game as Galicia in the 1066 start, and almost a hundred years later I've founded a titular kingdom of Portugal and conquered a nice chunk of Morocco. I am currently playing as Queen Estevainha 'the Bold', who has some pretty awesome stats, but something puzzles me about her. My...

I read a Harry Turtledove book last night

Hope this isn't necroposting... So I recently read Turtledove's latest novel, Bombs Away. The characters were mostly forgettable and the writing quite repetitive, but I found the basic premise intriguing: Truman grants MacArther permission to use nukes in the Korean War, and everything goes to...

Rome versus Muslims from the First Crusade

What are the conditions of the battle? Are we talking about who would win a straight-up fight, or is a Roman army ISOT'ed to the gates of Jerusalem and have to fight an entire campaign in hostile territory? Or the other way around?

    Plausibility on Spartan Empire?

When you get right down to it, Sparta was a military power because a slave class of Helots did all the agricultural work and freed up manpower to fight. Spartan commanders never liked to march too far from home, for fear of a Helot uprising. Since the army needs to stay close to Sparta to keep...

Great flags! But her title should read as Präsidentin und Kanzlerin der Union.

For All Strange Days *a must read classic TL*

Ten days is a long way to travel carrying everything you need to eat and drink. There ought to be some places to restock on supplies along the way, which would justify us RP'ing our visits. And for all we know, there could be a cultist hit-squad in a town along the route, waiting to whack us...

Whats your crazies Hearts of Iron game ?

I was playing a '36 Italy campaign featuring a shockingly passive Britain and France. Everything went out of whack when the Czechoslovaks decided to fight instead of give up the Sudetenland. They were crushed, of course. But when Germany invaded Poland, Britain and France still did nothing...

WI: German Empire sides with Entenate in WWI?

Makes no sense. Germany encouraged Austria-Hungary to punish Serbia promptly for the assassination of Francis Ferdinand. Why should they turn on their only major ally?

I made a flag for a griffon race that somewhat matches what you're looking for. The four red slashes represent stylized wounds from a griffon's four-taloned hand. Something similar could work, modified to reflect a JP velociraptor's talon anatomy (dunno how many they use to slash with).

Where would we be today if not for the Dark Ages?

I think technology today without the Dark Ages wouldn't be much different than it is in OTL, for many of the reasons already mentioned. But to modify the OP's question, what would we be politically today if not for the Dark Ages? Or ethnically? Avoiding a "Dark Age" scenario implies that...

WARNING! Following post contains Pony! Here's a speculative pennant design for the land of Equestria from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Sun and crescent moon motifs represent the kingdom's ruling immortal god-diarchs and their respective heavenly bodies.

I have EU3:Complete from Steam on my Mac. Is there any way for me to edit game files? Or even download and play mods? I can't seem to figure out any way to do either with Steam.

There are 8 stripes for the 8 major islands of Hawaii. I agree that adding a final blue stripe would look better, but that upsets the symbolism.

Works with "United Earth" trope subverted

Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game and following books has a united earth government that promptly collapses once the alien baddies are defeated. Earth nations resume fighting among themselves and founding their own colonies. Earth is eventually reunited again, but the USA is stated to have not...

who is the better writer, Harry Turtledove or S. M. Stirling?

I used to really like both of their books. Turtledove's The Guns of the South and the first few Timeline-191 books are pretty good, and I really wish S. M. Stirling would continue the Island in the Sea of Time series. I'm not a fan of their recent stuff. It's crap, actually. The War that Came...
