  1. How successful would Henry VIII’s reforms be if there was a legitimate cadet rival Tudor line?

The fate of - for example - Clarence seems considerably more relevant to how Edmund will fare than how the children of Emperor Henry IV fared, personally. It might be a fairly extreme case, but so is "I'm gonna rebel against my brother."
  2. Norman Guiscard invades Fatimid Egypt instead of Byzantine Empire

They've had periods (if not in this part of the 11th century) of dealing tolerably well with the Armenians. How much did the Copts even consider Constantinople and vice-versa in the 11th century as far as pressing issues?
  3. What if Henry V never invaded France

I'm not sure a less divided France would stop Henry from trying, but one other ambition of his that bears mentioning is the idea of a crusade. If he really doesn't think he can accomplish anything in France, I'd expect him to attempt one given the weight he seems to have put on that as "once...
  4. WI: Scenario Lancaster England And Castille

I have to say I'm curious why they would do this. It seems that the Yorkists don't care about whether or not the House of York has a better claim than the House of Lancaster in this timeline, but between that and removing the OTL events that gave York a grievance - well, we're looking at...
  5. WI: Scenario Lancaster England And Castille

I think the answer to "what changes" depends on how you get the Wars of the Roses here - it wasn't so much generic incompetence on Henry's part as specific failures and choices that lead to the Wars of the Roses, but if the French are decisively beaten by Henry V the things that provoked York...
  6. What if US Congress listened to John Wesley Powell?

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smithsonian-institution/visionary-john-wesley-powell-had-plan-developing-west-nobody-listened-180969182/ There's one here. I am curious how long it would take people to argue for making say, the areas that are in the southern part of California one state, even if...
  7. What would still happen if the central powers won ww1?

Not just the army, but the population on the whole I think.
  8. How bad can the ACW get?

The Partisan Ranger Act and its consequences seems worth bringing up here. "Partisan ranger service was meant to appeal to those who would have otherwise taken up arms as guerrillas, not those amenable to conventional service. Colonel John Imboden’s recruitment advertisement in the Richmond...
  9. A more reasonable Henry VIII?

Who would this likely be as far as finding an unmarried one of around the right age?
  10. What would still happen if the central powers won ww1?

Would a victorious Imperial Germany be able to prevent a red victory in Russia?
  11. How to reunite Poland?

I'm interested (not familiar enough with Poland of the period to add very much, but interested). No need to worry about translating it on my behalf though if time is an issue. Does this alternate reunification have much to worry about as far as conflict with the Teutonic Knights?
  12. What if the evacuation of Dunkirk had failed?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the main downside - besides the very immediate too short term to actually exploit because the Channel is in the way sense - for losing the pre-war regular divisions is more the long term professionals will be missed in getting units like the new 51st in fighting...
  13. What if the evacuation of Dunkirk had failed?

As it stands, we don't actually have any quotes establishing that Churchill saw this as time to seek peace. That is good enough for me barring something being introduced to show that the full quotes do in fact say that he saw this as such a time.
  14. What if the evacuation of Dunkirk had failed?

I want to see the full quotes before accepting those as indicating Churchill was interested in seeking peace terms as a matter of actual policy.
  15. What if the evacuation of Dunkirk had failed?

The one specifically stating this: “If we could get out of this jam by giving up Malta and Gibraltar and some African colonies I would jump at it. But the only safe way is to convince Hitler that he cannot beat us.” Italics mine, the words are Churchill's.
  16. Consequences for the Pacific War if Germany does not invade the USSR

"What does Germany do instead?" determines a part of the answer, I think. The US still has all the advantages necessary to do what it did OTL to Japan.
  17. Robert Falcon Scott survives returning from the South Pole

The wikipedia article you link comparing Scott and Amundsen's expeditions repeatedly refers to dogs, ponies, and motor-sledges being used on his final expedition. I think that might just be worth noting if we're talking about what he actually did, not an alternate timeline where all those are...
  18. Robert Falcon Scott survives returning from the South Pole

This raises some interesting points on Amundsen's assessment of how much of a challenge he thought Scott was, and from what I've read of Amundsen (not a great deal, in all honesty) does not suggest he'd err on the side of overrating Scott or perhaps more accurately, underrating his own abilities...
  19. Robert Falcon Scott survives returning from the South Pole

It's hard to tell how much its an utter disdain for manhauling specifically vs. an utter disdain for anything that might suggest the British in general or Scott in particular were anything other than a caricature, to be honest. I'm not familiar enough with the pros and cons of sled dogs in...
  20. Robert Falcon Scott survives returning from the South Pole

I don't think anyone has argued Scott was a superior explorer to Amundsen, or if they have I have badly misunderstood their arguments. But "Scott was not a moron." and "Scott could do no wrong." are two pretty distinct things to my eyes.
