  2. AHC: No European dominance

It's pretty well known history that the Mongol Conquests of China and the Middle East brought the Islamic Golden Age and the advanced Song Empire to an end. It took 300 years for them to recover. Mongolians burning down Rome, Paris and Prague would almost certainly do the same thing. The...
  3. AHC: No European dominance

The Mongols would have devastated Europe and killed probably 20 to 30 percent of all people on the subcontinent. Definite decline in terms of cultural capital.
  4. AHC: No European dominance

Ogedai Khan doesn't die and the Mongols invade Europe in force in 1241.
  5. Map Thread XX

Very nice. I've been doing some research into a similar timeline either with Felix Swartzenburg living or a victory at Sadowa. Not sure if that big of a prussia would really stay out of a German Union for long though. Berlin would want in while Konigsberg wouldn't.
  6. Flag Thread V

The Austro-Italo-Hungarian Empire, now with a better Hungarian crown
  7. Flag Thread V

A flag for the Austrian Empire and it's autonomous Kingdoms, Italy and Hungary.
  8. AHC: British Empire buys up slaves to fight in the British Army

Slaves in the military is fine for the Assyrians and Romans, but this is the 1830's we are talking about, the military is a modern force where the soldiers are trained and paid well and are expected to be a professional force. Throwing slaves into the army isn't exactly a progressive thing.
  9. Lean, Mean, British Imperial Machine

I think the key is to get better, less conservative governance everywhere. Something more democratic early enough to fight the natural occurence of full scale independence nationalism. I can see federalism as a good fight against that while allowing all the benefits that people who were fighting...
  10. Look to the West -- Thread II

Yeah the Republic of Superia is going to be interesting.
  11. Territory=Power?

Why can't anybody give a good reason why France's demographics dropped off? There are a lot of theories but no answers. Its wierd and frustrating; mostly becuase I'd love to come up with a TL where they keep growing. Something like 90 to 100 million Frenchman would be interesting.
  12. The surviving french monarchy

Interesting. So insteado f a Frenhc revolutionary state that dominates Europe, we have a Frenhc Civil War along the same broad lines as the English Civil War? Should be good... I look forward to more.
  13. Upcoming Conroy novel beefs up the stupid

I mean it obviously is quite silly. But he does take most of from real-life plans. And if he really shows how overstretched the Japanese are, and if a real invasion of the West Coast is ruled out of the question, I could see that not being too implausible.
  14. A Crack at Draka: ME's Attempt at a Better TL

I like description of the proto-libertarian and Racist ideas, without going overboard. Also, the architctecture really helps as well to visualize a slowly developing Draka culture. I look forward to more Butterflies.
  15. WI- The French Revolution Happened 30 years earlier?

Right those butterflies are all well and good, but the people, the people. John Wilkes Booth and Abraham Lincoln are close to being fine, given that thier parents were born. But that list of parliamentary leaders of America is painfully convergent, thats all. You just changed some dates around...
  16. Disaster at Leuthen TL - Frederick the Great dies in battle

I like this TL, there's a lot of interesting Butterflies. I also like the alternate American Revolution.
  17. WI- The French Revolution Happened 30 years earlier?

What about the butterflies? French Revolution happens thirty years earlier and the only butterfly in America is the Rick Santorum is more moderate? Come on, Imagination! Please infuse some imagination!
  18. WI: France loses the Battle of Fontenoy?

This would be great news for the Dutch Republic. After Fontenoy with fear that the French would invade the Netherlands, the Dutch appointed William IV statholder and gave him complete control of government and used it to fuck up the country for thirty years. Corruption, decline in trade and all...
  19. AHC: United Latin America

The Spanish did it because they had an insane tech lead and no other nations to fight them over it. Even then they had a lot of rebellions and basically ruled it with an iron fist, fear of God and choking trade routes. Independence from Spain was almost inevitable once enough economic...
  20. "The Bloody Man"

Interestingly, this is heading in a dicrection not unlike what LTTW tried to do. Integrate British socio-political developments with the rest of western Europe. Where LTTW had a Jacobin Invasion and then a repressive government that led to a *1848 style revolution, while TBM is looking to make...
