This isn't very scientific at all, but for this, in GIMP I changed the exposure of the whole image so the shoreline (or what I assumed to be the shoreline, might be a bit off) on the alt map is equivalent to the OTL map, and then selected the part of the image that was land and moved up the...

    The NextGen OTL Worlda Series

I would absolutely use this over the present worlda, for the record, although I don't actually use the worlda that much anyways because of how small it is.

    The NextGen OTL Worlda Series

I believe it is, I've never been able to make QBAM stuff fit on worlda without some vertical-horizontal distortion. So basically, as you might have heard, neither the QBAM nor the worlda are actually in any well-defined projection that can be identified, and therefore there is no canonical way...

    The NextGen OTL Worlda Series

I mean the borders he's using were made by me they're just older and I was later slightly dissatisfied with them.

This kind of sucks but it should be generally useful.

e.g. Ethiopia? Hmm, if we assume it has to be about the same conditions, Antarctica might be the most similar to our Ethiopia, being a tropical plateau. Though it would be quite isolated! As for some of the things in your original post, it sort of seems like the icecap would be a bit smaller...

    The R-QBAM main thread

Nitpick, why exactly does that disqualify it from being "land"? It seems to me that under normal geographic convention, ice is considered land when it rests on bedrock, including when that bedrock is below sea level and would flood if the ice were removed. After all, most maps depict Antarctica...

    Optimal borders survey: TIBET (revised)

But why Haixi though. Why do people keep wanting to give Haixi to Tibet. I broadly agree with your rant but actually my main annoyance here is that 90% of the people in this thread are just drawing these borders on vague notions of "what would I guess would make the Chinese mad" (as if Tibetan...

Something I've been thinking about is that northern Manchuria and southwestern Siberia did not become core regions of complex states until the modern period even though their mean annual temperatures are not so harsh and they have temperate climates and are river plains which today host large...

Have I mentioned how much I despise the Mollweide projection? I'm convinced that anyone who uses it is doing so intentionally to their work from advancing the field of human knowledge. It's not a valid input in gprojector!!! Also me on my way to use kelvin for climatology for some reason.

Oh yeah I've been meaning to ask, are there any maps of January/July temperatures for the retrograde simulation? I feel like the Köppen categories don't capture this too well, for example Heihe in northern Manchuria gets to -21 C in winter while Moscow only gets to -6 despite being in the same...

I was meaning to go compare this to the last version, but it turns out that imgur has deleted it! You wouldn't happen to have it saved anywhere?

I guess it shouldn't surprise me that this basically just looks like retrograde earth.

    The Warlord Atlas

Regrettably I haven't posted as much in this thread as I would have liked to in recent years. And yet the project really has come so far. I now have access to more information than ever before, I've gotten my hands on troves of county chronicles and Guo Tingyi's historical timeline of the...

Proposals and War Aims That Didn't Happen Map Thread

Arguably it did. Assad's government won the civil war and gained hegemony over the country, and violence now occurs only in sporadic outbreaks.

Proposals and War Aims That Didn't Happen Map Thread

A decentralised federation is the stated goal of all members of the anti-tatmadaw coalition. The "declaration of independence" of Chinland seems to have been exaggerated by reporting, and it seems that they are also in line with this goal. I suppose it's not impossible that many of the ethnic...

What did you base the exact contour of the northern border off of by the way?

I believe that the image he is using is a relief map, so there is no "normal colour" version of it. Though to be fair your question is also clearly expressing the intent to ask for a satellite version of that map, so this is a nitpick I guess.
