Jimmy Two: America in Carter's Second Term

Thank you! I really appreciate that :) I think that's up to you. I think in my head I view it as Good ole Joe. Ready to serve however called upon and doesn't think that there'll be any problems because there usually aren't for these sorts of things. But I like your idea that he might actually...

Jimmy Two: America in Carter's Second Term

Gotcha! Carter actually proposed suspending his tax cuts by a year as he was leaving office. I cover that tax debate in Chapter 11. I think you're right though that if the economy starts to recover and the nation can afford his tax cuts, he'll want them.

This is interesting. Was it considered at the time?

Jimmy Two: America in Carter's Second Term

I did mull it over but ultimately decided he would for a few reasons: 1) He was a pretty non ideological swing vote appointed by a centrist Republican. Leaving under a centrist Democrat, he’s probably not too worried about the fact that Carter will be replacing him, especially because Carter...

What It Took: A TLIAW by Enigma and Vidal

Tagging @Enigma-Conundrum, but I think he wanted to incorporate it and Grasso fit perfectly. Once he used it in 80, I decided to use it again in 2000.

Jimmy Two: America in Carter's Second Term

I've largely avoided trying to compare it to the ACA because it's not a neat comparison. Essentially, it would've provided catastrophic care coverage for every American, expanded Medicare and Medicaid coverage and merged them into Healthcare, which could then be used to become a public option...

What It Took: A TLIAW by Enigma and Vidal

It’s up to @Enigma-Conundrum. It could be, but also in theory they could’ve gotten an appointed VP through in the Knick of time. Or maybe an alternate line of succession act was passed post POD

Presidents and VPs yes. Probably SCOTUS too but Speakers seems like a stretch given how few have been defined.

What It Took: A TLIAW by Enigma and Vidal

Yeah, in retrospect I would probably have swapped NE out for Kansas. My general idea was this is a low turnout 50/50 race in which both major party candidates defy the ideological trends of their parties so some weird results are bound to pop up. I also imagine about half states in the country...
