    Suicide weaponized by Soviet bloc

In the Mideast Wars with Israel, Sov Block armor was far worse in the ammo propellant going off, by huge flame out the TC Hatch, or popping the whole turret off, than the Western sourced armor, that had it's own issues, but had higher survival rate of crews with Centurion and M60s with fires

  6. WI: Longer Lived Stephen A. Douglas

Former senator Douglas is nominated by the Democrats for president in 1868, making the race more competitive, but he ultimately still dies in relative obscurity. Or, more interestingly, his hostility to the copperheads leads him to change parties and run as a Republican in 1868....

How important was the Dunkirk evacuation ?

Yes . . . without doubt. Britain had voted in by Act of Parliament full conscription at the outbreak of war. Even if the Dunkirk pocket had fallen with all those men, they're be a couple of hundred thousand of trained men ready to fight if the country was invaded. The only thing that was a...

    Threadmarks: Farewell to Constantinople

Thank you all kindly. Here's the next part. On the 31st of August 1452, a dim blustery Thursday, construction on Sultan Mehmed II's Bosporan fortress was completed. The Ottomans named it Bogaz Kesen -- 'Throat-cutter,' -- and it had taken only four short months to complete. With its seventeen...

Fictional Films and Shows of Alternate nations (Pre-1900)

In a world where Mexico dominates North America, there could be films of "Vaqueros" or "Extremo-Norte". Or the Russians making films about the conquest of the "Far-East".

The New Order: Last Days of Europe - An Axis Victory Cold War Mod for HoIIV

I confess I don't quite understand how Gutrun Vagner concept of Arianism works. It seems that as long you pass the ritual, you can fit. Like, Brazil is about 45% white, 45% mestizo, 10% black, any Nazi government obsessed with just one pillar would collapse... Nazi methods would result in a...
  12. Until Every Drop of Blood Is Paid: A More Radical American Civil War

What would the chances be of an amendment with broader wording such as, “The right to vote for any citizen of the United States shall not be infringed.” That would be a catch-all along the lines of the first amendments and much harder to legislate around if certain people wanted to use tests...
  13. WI: Japanese Madagascar

You'd need Japan opened earlier, and/or the Setsuma War to begin/end sooner.
  14. An 1-engine fast bomber for 1935-45?

the whole concept of "twinned" engine should have been confined to small numbers, just IMO, a logical development would be HE-119, followed by HE-219 (an alt. version with 2 of the power system units), followed by a jet aircraft a 319 if you will? just pulling numbers out of the air say 200 -...

Bering Strait Bridge Built During Detant

This mega project is also a super-weapon. A weapon for destroying and over-throwing states. I could imagine some plot to push such a project in a rival state to get them to try and build it and destroy themselves. A huge and extremely expensive structure, Built far from existing logistics and...
  17. Bering Strait Bridge Built During Detant

Welllll.... Given that you'd need to built major road and rail networks, in both Siberia and Alaska, just to get to the starting point, the project would take decades and I can't imagine how many billion. For what purpose?
  18. Effects of the Mississippi River as an International Boundary

Lots of 'twin" cities on either side of the border, and the potential for war when the river's course fluctuates over time.
  19. A Nation of Snow Leopards - A Political Graphical Timeline

Indian Nepali war as India planned annexing some disputed territory and place them firmly in their sphere. Given a stronger Nepal you can imagine their would be stronger incentive to take more territory. Pakistan and one of the China's would intervene to prevent India from getting stronger and...
  20. How much would it cost the modern UK to rebuild the Royal Navy to 1960s/70s levels of fleet strength?

True, though for the purposes of my numbers I assumed a batter Type 45, a 'proper' area air-defense ship with multi-role capability at least as capable as a KDX-3. I'd also expect the carriers to be larger, faster and able to actually operate aircraft.... But perhaps that's a bit much.
