  2. 2001 insurgency in Macedonia escalates into a civil war

Anyway the 2001 insurgency in Macedonia could escalate into a civil war like other countries of the former Yugoslavia What would be the impact of this How successfully would Albanian separatists be. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2001_insurgency_in_Macedonia
  3. How early could a horse-bus public transport system be successful?

Well, the Diolkos was a response to some very unique conditions that made it a worthwhile proposition. Being able to avoid the weather south of the Peloponnese and shorten the journey between Aegean and Ionian ports was definitely very valuable. It's hard to see other places where this would be...
  4. What are some likely convergences?

How about a state that controls both Persia and Mesopotamia? It was a trend that started with the Achaemenids, thousands of years ago, and only ended after the Ottomans kicked the Safavids out of Baghdad in the 16th century.
  5. AH Timeline: The NHL-WHA merger: A different story

If Pepsi were to become the owners for the Islanders, I could see them pushing for more advertising options to a similar level to what we have now earlier (helmet ads, on ice ads etc.). I could also see them having the inside track to get Gatorade to become the drink sponsor. The NAHO is...
  6. AHC/WI: Stronger IJN light cruiser line

I was just reading this in Friedman, Norman; Naval History and Heritage Command. Winning a Future War: War Gaming and Victory in the Pacific War (p. 46). "The inter-war cruiser problem, which will be discussed in detail later, is a good illustration. Asked for advice after the conclusion of the...
  7. Cinco de Mayo

My horrific attempt at making a map of Cinco de Mayo's Europe as of 1892. Note Alsace-Lorraine still being French, Luxembourg being part of Germany, the advancement of Russia into Central Asia, and the independence of Serbia, Romania and Montenegro but the OE still having a cohesive and...
  8. How early could a horse-bus public transport system be successful?

Actually, I think horse-drawn trams are a very interesting possibility; I've just been mostly assuming that they would come after rather than before an omnibus network. My reasoning is that iron rails would be fairly expensive to build in any pre-1600s society. Add in that building a tram...
  9. Rockefeller 1960 -- consequences?

    (1) I don't think that winning the nomination is by any means granted - I strongly suspect anti-Rockefellerite and pro-Goldwater forces will be considerably strengthened in the absence of Nixon, and Goldwater will be certain to make a run. I also suspect Ike will back his preferred successor...
  10. ECM /recon version of mig23

My understanding was that it wasn't supposed to escort the aircraft, just suppress a given set of AD radars to open the space for the supersonic aircraft to fly through the hole in the radar net.
  11. The German Century

Finally, someone that can make better maps than me! There have been a few Worlda maps from Michel Van, but no QBAM map. It would be really helpful if you can make one. I can tell what it should like in PM if you want.

Effects of the Mississippi River as an International Boundary

My main scenario is a New Spain-British North America conflict, later developing into a Republic of Louisiana-Empire of North America one. I'll have to revisit how Louisiana gets its independence from New Spain (probably from a Carlist-like civil war in Spain, where one of the claimants crosses...

  14. How early could a horse-bus public transport system be successful?

Why not horse-drawn trams? Even when still using animal propulsion, the benefits in smooth rides and reduced friction of iron wheels on iron rails are not to be underestimated. If you're paving the city streets, laying some iron rails doesn't seem like it should be that much more expensive.

East German Army if GDR didn't reunited with West Germany in 1991?

One of my favorite historical subjects is the German Democratic Republic, I discovered this hybrid state in the first year of college (The Berlin Wall and the GDR, 1961-1991) and since I have catched the "SED" virus It is rather unfortunate to note however that very few uchronies deal directly...

That and also that the larger area it affected in comparison to OTL. IOTL WW2 was mostly fought on Eurasia and Africa, while ITTL the Americas have a front that is equal to Europe and East Asia in relation to its devastation and death

    What are some likely convergences?

I recall seeing a thread discussing unlikely convergences that are frequent in alternate history. The Russian-Kazakh border was given as an example. What are some convergences that are likely? As examples; The northern borders of Italy and Spain are defined by the Pyrenees and the Alps, these...
  19. A stronger Poland: what would be the effects on Hungary and the Balkans?

The butterflies here are a bit steep. If you start changing things in the 10th century AD, there's no guarantee that the Turks will eventually take all of Anatolia from the ERE, let alone stomp their way through the Balkans--we might be talking instead about a Greater Serbia, or a Serbian...
