    What are some likely convergences?

Looking at a globe I am surprised that the eastern coast of South America was colonized decades before Newfoundland, whose first permanent European settlement was founded in 1610 and then was little more than a handful of families until the late 18th century. Edward I held various degrees of...
  2. A Hippie in the House of Mouse (Jim Henson at Disney, 1980)

Oh. I was thinking too literally about the "cow town puppet show" hint. Yeah, I'm as curious about the butterflies as you are.

AHC/WI: Stronger IJN light cruiser line

On that note, back to discussing IJN CLs. What if Oi and Kitakami undergo their fast transport refits in late June to late July instead of August to September and are assigned to 8th Fleet? This would be a valid use for them, since 8th Fleet was created to consolidate Japanese holdings in New...

    Alternate Stewart succession of England?

If there is France to make New France then yes.

Alternate Wikipedia Infoboxes VI (Do Not Post Current Politics or Political Figures Here)

The Third Clone War was a galactic military conflict lasting from 967 to 976. It was the third and largest of the three Clone Wars. 14 years of peace that had lasted since the end of the Second Clone War ended with the Invasion of Alderaan by clone forces and the subsequent formation of the...
  7. For Want of a Word – Stolypin endures

And as I wrote, he is talking about the nobility and the nobilities land, not all worked land. I am talking about all worked land. I have written this several times now. And before that I pointed out that by 1917, 90% of all lands had been privatized during the war by the ww1 Kulaks, which is...

Map of the Fortnight: Main Discussion Thread

Lakes and rivers are both fair game, as long as the control of them is significant for the country depicted. Sure, as long as the map depicts the period of control.
  9. AHC: World War fought in North American soil?

Probably not the most likely outcome, but if you couple a more fascist friendly Depression era US with a UK that snubs them post war (defaults on loans, pushes too hard against the US at the Washington Naval Conference, etc.) you might be able to create a Germano-American alliance.
  10. For Want of a Word – Stolypin endures

I am arguing in good faith, it is indeed others who require a source that land was worked before the war, that are not. To require a source that land was worked before the war is indeed ridiculous. And in good faith I must be allowed to point that out. And you are using your mod powers and...
  11. Sir John Valentine Carden survives.

Looking at the problem to hand (a lack of spare parts), maybe pull some of the suppliers earmarked for the A22 to produce Valiant components instead.
  12. AHC: World War fought in North American soil?

Have those rumors that Carranza had something to do with the Plan of San Carlos turn out to be either true, or gain enough traction in the US to be accepted as truth. The idea that Carranza would deliberately support attacks on US soil, in order to gain diplomatic concessions for stopping them...
  13. How long would it take for the Confederates to abolish slavery if they won the civil war?

They'll abolish slavery when it becomes uneconomic to use them, which probably coincides with Britain, France and the USA putting embargoes on Confederate goods and the price of cotton collapses. The planters will be rushing to free their slaves as fast as they can. What comes afterwards is...
  14. A swift Republican victory in the Spanish Civil War?

Er, what? Spain's too poor at this point to engage in foreign adventures, never mind conquering an entire continent.

    Alternate Stewart succession of England?

I doubt Mary would marry Robert here. IIRC the only reasons she married Darnley in otl was because he was Catholic, a member of the Stewarts (which helped keep the loyal lineage alive) and because he was an English noble (Elizabeth I wanted her to marry an English noble).

  17. Obscure AH Websites

Saw this from a no-reply thread: Stephen Abbott's Alternate History Website used to be a huge one in like 2001/2002. Looks like the last archive was in December 2005. Nothing beside remains. It has a ton of material and probably deserves a thread of its own. I even tried writing a follow-up...
  18. Reds! Official Fanfiction Thread (Part Two)

It does not help me fully appreciate this post that I have no idea what or who a "Reggie Lawson" is. But certainly it is in the spirit of the TL to have an ATL production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that hews more closely to the OTL version with Gene Wilder--perhaps there are two...
