Threadmarks: The Rising Sun that Never Sets

This one is just a map I made by drawing whatever looked good. Africa doesn't look good tho, but I really like Asia in this one.
  2. Is it possible to avoid the catastrophic economic and demographic fallout from the USSR collapse

It would not be an IPO on the open market, it would be an in-house sale of shares for the managers and workers of the factory buying said shares it could sold as penny shares from the beginning because no matter what, the state can regulate as they still have a decisive share of the company...

Another Kaiserriech Game, this time as the German Empire. The Asian borders for this one suck btw.
  4. Goeben Atlantic breakout

The straights are very deep and the tidal speed quite high The Strait's depth ranges between 300 and 900 metres - which at the time was beyond the max mining depths

    Competent Austro-Hungarian military command.

At the Start of the War, confused mobilization screwed up the Serbian advance, and Austrian attacks against the Russians went well until September, that led to disaster. Standing on Defence might have been a better plan while trying for a Serbian knockout
  6. Stupid Luck and Happenstance, Thread III

Mayby, but I think he is very "street-wise" cop. He spend years on the beat and has a lot contacts in all layers of the population of LA. He probally knows 1,2 & 3 generation off small time crooks and gets a lot of information this way. I think he walks a thin line between coming down hard on...

I think this one was the first Worlda map I posted. It is based on a HoI4 Kaiserreich game (back when the Italian Republic was in control of all of Northern Italy and the Socialists were in the South). Here are some details about the campaign:
  8. Alternate warships of nations

Ghormley aside, I think the commanders are less important, at least in the surface units, than the complete lack of training at all levels. Experienced crew had been yoinked to crew new vessels, the cruiser-destroyer groups kept being hastily thrown together without any time to train together...

Great Schroeder ending Everything in the balance politically back in the USA with an old land mine in France deciding its future
  10. Goeben Atlantic breakout

You might think so, but to draw a comparison to the straights that Goeben is usually more associated with - the Dardanelles were mined and a British merchant ship hit an armed mine in early August 1914 (SS Craigforth?) and it doesn’t seem to have led to additional consequences beyond the...

Are there any good Alternate History Games on Steam?

I haven't played it myself, but it seems like Iron Harvest is right up your alley. It is an RTS game in the vein of titles like Company of Heroes and Dawn of War, and is set in the aftermath of an alternate WW1 where Europe erupts into conflict in the 1920s using diesel powered mechs. It has a...
  12. Soviet low level air defense missiles: too little too late ?

Only if the enemy flies high enough. The radar horizon is a bitch. If you expect the enemy to fly in at low level you don't need a missile with that kind of range, because you're not going to spot them in time anyway to make use of it.
  13. WI: Alexander the Great lives to 75?

I think even if the core army and generals stay loyal (a fair assumption), he’s still going to spend increasing amounts of time maintaining his empire rather than expanding it. What happens when he returns from conquering Arabia, to news that two different generals and three satraps are asking...
  14. AHC: Defend the Falklands

Plant a couple dozen Mirage IIIC on the island, along with the Super Etendards set to carry Exocets ; run CAPs all day. The harriers would be quickly overwhelmed, and there would be the serious possibility of scoring hits on the carriers. And, with Mirages parked on the island, running CAPs...

WI: Alexander the Great lives to 75?

I mean, it should be noted that Alexander IV was not killed until 309, and by Cassander, who had not campaigned at all with Alexander. Perdiccas was willing to push Stateira out of the way, but only to monopolize the regency over Roxanne's pending child.
  18. VPOTUS holds a cabinet position.

The most likely expansion of Vice Presidential powers pre-1900 would probably be found in their legislative powers as President of the Senate. Presiding over the upper house in a bicameral legislature could grant a lot of power in theory. In a lot of cases, more power than certain cabinet...
  19. WI: Warsaw Pact armies if USSR liberalizes

There were multiple factors involved not just communism. Nationality, ethnicity, religion, historical experience, corruption all played a role.

Plus they probably had the range to defend a relatively large airspace
