  1. AHC: Longest possible airship age

Hydrogen is very leaky. If you want to use silk, you have to dope it, which of course makes it heavier. Goldbeaters skin is what the usually used iOTL. Err... Why on earth can't trains run all night? And passenger expresses already run at about the speed of an airship, and aren't affected by...
  2. What if during the 1980's troubles Ireland was united but "committed" a terrifying bombing and Britain declared war on Ireland

Surely in this context the UK are as likely to assume its the UDa or UVF doing it. After all why would a republican be doing it? Sheer random stupidity virus?
  3. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

The death of non-combatants (and, for that matter the actual combatants, many of whom are quite young) is one of the most terrible features of war. Always has been, likely always will be. It continues to this day, despite the almost magical advances in weapon accuracy and in the ever evolving...
  4. Comte de Dordogne

AHC: Rename a country, that unified from a long-described region

Do you know when these names became established in Europe?
  5. As Dreamers Do: American Magic Redux

That's the best case scenario for a show like Rocky and Bullwinkle! I don't see why not. After all, the Jetsons were brought back to television in 1985, but for weekday syndication and targeted towards kids, rather than on primetime and targeted to adults. So this is another improvement for the...
  6. The Anglo/American - Nazi War - The on-going mystery

The Volcanos in Europe run along two lines: 1) the Mediterranean from Turkey through the Greek Islands, extreme southern Italy and west from there and 2) those associated with the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. As far as I can tell there are only two volcanos that erupted in the 20th century that are in...

AHC: Rename a country, that unified from a long-described region

China could have remained Cathay as in traditional European maps, or a more native-derived Anglicized of the Chinese could've stuck (Zhongguo). Korea could've taken care he dynastic name from the last dynasty (Joseon/Choson) or its name could've come by way of Japan (Chosen). Japan could've...
  8. Keynes' Cruisers Volume 2

Well I suppose if you think that is acceptable....... Well do have a nice time doing whatever it is you are doing....that is 'obviously' deemed far more important that us
  9. Goeben Atlantic breakout

Do you think that the kind of ships that Goeben took coal from in Messina and Donoussa would be absent from Cadiz, Tangiers, Lisbon, Tenerife or Ponta Delgada?
  10. The Last Hanover: The Life and Reign of Queen Charlotte

Good to see an update, and one with interesting divergences in France and the Netherlands! Really curious to what this change in landscape will mean for the different royal families of Europe and of course for the political landscape! Any chance we will hear something from Napoleon?
  11. It's A Long Way To Nagasaki: The Anglo-Japanese War

On the other hand, they will have a lot more manpower, with less losses and more volunteers, and of course the poles. If they also make a virtue of necessity and make promises of an independent Ukraine for example (by no means am I suggesting that Hitler intended to honor any such commitments)...
  12. WI: The Enterprise completes its five year mission (Star Trek survives for 5 seasons)

Decker survives in In Thy Image according to Foster's original treatment so he will survive the TV movie. The story for In Thy Image is here and is far better as a two-hour TV movie than TMP turned out to be. Roddenberry damaged Foster's very good concept and plot quite significantly IRL...
  13. Sports What Ifs.

Read the article, Lions wanted brees otl, in their scenario too rivers as was available
  14. AH books/novels with time travel to past to redo his/her life and make things better

Turtledove had two short stories on that premise--"Forty counting down" and "Twenty-One counting up." They are two perspectives on the same event--a forty-year-old man wants to go back in time and prevent the breakup that he views as de-railing his life.
  15. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

Apologies - must stop posting after bad work meetings
  16. What if during the 1980's troubles Ireland was united but "committed" a terrifying bombing and Britain declared war on Ireland

The thing with this is the British security forces pretty much have the Republican groups well infiltrated, and Dublin-London interactions are relatively good OTL at this stage and would as I said be high if Unification happened, so as said I think you need a bit more detail as to how the U.K...
  17. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

Ok? Not arguing that? You seem awfully aggressive.
  18. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

Yes. A conscientious objector is a luxury that those same western democracies the OP was slating allowed. Nazi Germany shot them.
  19. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

Goebbels held a speech in the Berlin Sportpalast in february 1943, where he asked the question if the Germans wanted total war. They said yes. Now there's a fair bit of masshysteria involved there, but the bottomline is that Germany (or at least their leaders/government) did choose for total war.
