  1. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

I think he means Americans treated the Vietnamese worse then the Americans treated the defeated Nazis.

Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

One (me) wanted to avoid whataboutism, by restricting discussion to the OP topic raised. Morality in war is not morality in peace, though the process crime of murder is still present when one has to deal with morally unjustified killing. It does make a difference whether or not the crime in...
  3. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

Yes? I'm not arguing that. I'm just saying flippantly saying moral questions and discussions should not even be touched on is dangerous. There is no harm to talking about it, and much good to be won, especially retroactively.
  4. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

On what planet? On this one the Vietnamese were not marched into death camps.
  5. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

A “more moral” Allied forces would still run into the same strategic needs and have the same technological limitation. It would either change nothing, or they would refuse to conduct strategic bombing, in which case the Germans might win.

Nguyen Chi Thanh doesn't die in 1967

Possibly. He could have come to power after Lê Duẩn's death in 1986. Although by that point he would have been 72 and he'd have been unlikely to be in charge for long.
  7. AHC: is it feasible if the world started diversfying away from fossil fuels much earlier

Oh, please. Chernobyl caused all of 60 deaths and Fukushima all of one, in both cases including cancer.

Edward IV and Henry Tudor/VII switch personalities

Edward IV had great military abilities and was a charasmatic warrior and Henry Tudor had great political abilities and was a ruthless moneyhungry jerk but what if they switch personalities
  9. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

if bombing civillians is just because of all the reasons in this thread (damaging war making capabilities and psyche, killing some to save magnitudes more and so on) then wouldnt that make terrorists justified? how many people does modern day imperialism kill? i know these arent the same, but...
  10. Socialist/communist USA, is it possible, and likeliest time period to arise?

I think the biggest question here is "which American socialism?". If you have an impossibilist faction (De Leon's SLP, the Chicago IWW, most European Marxists but especially the French and most famously, the Bolsheviks) that is going to be very different than a possibilist faction (Socialist...
  11. Dunkirk disaster and Spain declares war on Britain.

Spain and Russia would apply the same thought process as Mussolini when he declared war. Mussolini didn't join the war until he thought the battle of France was over. Mussolini needed to declare war in order to be at the negotiating table when the spoils of the war are divided. If Spain and...

I'd rather you spent 2 minutes explaining your comment rather than asking me to spend 40 minutes doing homework you assign to engage in conversation with you.
  14. Socialist/communist USA, is it possible, and likeliest time period to arise?

A "Teddy Roosevelt" was inevitable at the time. He was hardly the only one. Eventually someone like William Jennings Bryant or Bob La Follet would be elected in his place. The US was democratic and once there was enough support for reform a reformer was bound to be elected.

If Britain/France vs Germany/Italy goes on for many years, what moves do the Soviets make?

Japan seeks a diplomatic accord with China in 1934, avoiding the confrontation with the West. The Anglo-French defeat the German offensive in the West, and the Soviets take the opportunity to jump into Eastern Europe as the Reich collapses. The German Army takes control of West Germany in...
  16. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

I do recall Harris (or someone like him) stating that D-Day wasn't needed since Bomber Command could win the war entirely from the air.
  17. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

Also if you suggested such a thing you'd have Trenchard try and beat you to death with his walking stick whilst Harris and Portal applied well polished boots to your chest and head. The RAF was enthralled with the 'bomber dream' and viewed any diversion of roles outside of defending the UK or...
  18. Goeben Atlantic breakout

Some interesting context on the communications and moves undertaken by the British (with commentary) here: https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/alltheworldsbattlecruisers/admiral-milne-incapacitated-end-july-1914-t8907.html
  19. Socialist/communist USA, is it possible, and likeliest time period to arise?

I've always thought a possible POD is no Teddy Roosevelt presidency, or progressive in his place. Maybe a continued set of conservative McKinley type presidents that leads to revolution and civil war in the late 1910s.
