  1. The Children of Camelot

Fabulous update! I think you mean powerful navy? Or connections?
  2. Abnormally Suasive

I have a nitpick to your nitpick, Professor. I go with Mirriam Webster's explanation of the differences. " sympathy is when you share the feelings of another; empathy is when you understand the feelings of another but do not necessarily share them." A sympathetic person has to choose sides in...
  3. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

Except, of course, that a lot of people in southern Vietnam didn’t want to be ruled by communists. Which was the whole reason why there were two Vietnams in the first place. France “just leaving” wouldn’t have changed that. Again, the North Vietnamese did more than their fair share of...
  4. British Empire in WW2 using colonial forces across pacific and european theatres in much larger numbers

I fully believe that in a blunted sickle scenario many colonial troops would be called up to a greater level than OTL. I'm not sure we would see a truly a massive colonial army. In a non blunted sickle war I could see small increases but not a massive increase in colonial forces. I once...

    Crusader Kings III

The big issue here is that China will blob and eat the map unless you have a strongly upper-bounded realm size limit.
  6. AHC: is it feasible if the world started diversfying away from fossil fuels much earlier

Tidal is even worse than solar and wind (and they are pretty bad) as a source of energy. They take gargantuan amounts of area to provide relatively small amounts of energy.
  7. No Scuttling of the German High Seas Fleet (HSF)

Following the armistice on 11 Nov 1918, the HSF's 74 ships were directed to surrender and eventually made itself to Scapa Flow to be interned ~27 November (the 176 u-boats were handed over on 20 November). Had the HSF leadership not scuttled the fleet but instead the manpower was sent back to...
  8. The 30 mm HE shell. The ideal weapon for use by WW2 Allied fighter planes?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survivorship_bias from the Wikipedia article. Here is the well known image used to illustrate survivor bias as describe by Abraham Wald. Planes hit in the marked spots would often still be able to return home. There is no data recorded for the unmarked spots...

    The Children of Camelot
Threadmarks: Section 3: Tudor family affairs

"In 1503, Henry VII formally began planning the education of his two Grandsons. He had always had an idea how he wanted them to be thought, but here he would make his final decision. His eldest, and frankly, favourite Grandson, Prince Arthur was to be thought primarily in statecraft and...
  10. AHC: The US with a high speed rail system as prolific as in East Asia or western Europe

There's definitely merit in a "better" UAC Turbotrain, with some of the teething issues it had solved, given it was already in OTL a bi-mode train (third rail shoes for running in to New York GCT) and had pendular suspension. However, it does need those teething issues; poor ride quality...
  11. 1066: Year of the Conquest, and Beyond - Scandinavian England

The viking age is bound to end, it had already pretty much ended by this point. The crusades, too, will happen but there is absolutely no guarantee on the magnitude or even likelihood of their success. A lot of the First Crusade's success was due to luck, that the Muslim world was disunited and...

Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

There shouldn't have been a North or South Vietnam in the first place! France should've left, and that's it. China is a scary neighbor, but I can't help but feel shocked someone could trust an enemy that chemically burned away his forests, and murdered his way through countless villages...
  13. In Another Arena: American Politics Without Richard Nixon

Come to think of it, the mention of liberal Republicans makes me wonder: whither Nelson Rockefeller? He will probably show up, considering that his family was pretty wealthy. Someone with that much wealth would have very few options. Either he runs for something, or he just sits around...

  15. Have Triumph Motors continue to be a viable company up to the present day.

AFAIK, Triumph was doing very well until Leyland started getting seriously expansionist with Rover and then, obviously, the BLMC clusterfudge. While I've had fanciful thoughts about other British brands surviving and thriving, this one seems closest to the sort of brand that prospered IOTL. I...
  16. What would the Treaty of Berlin look like if Germany chose to back Russia's claims?

I see your point. However, I'm afraid that Russia might meet a similar fate to Austria after the Crimean War if it back pedals the pan-Slavic foreign policy. Since Austria didn't follow up on its deals with Russia when the CW broke out, its image abroad, and even internally to some extent...
  17. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

Somewhat shallower 🙂 . Baltic is a glorified lake with barely and exchange of water with the ocean. Those chemicals (inc chemicals found in Germany after WW2) and even oil from sunken ships are a ticking time bombs.

    McGoverning

New Mexico seems marginally possible with some good luck, but yes, I agree. At the same time the South is arguably less elastic in this era than the Mountain West.

    I see. Makes sense
  20. The Third Rome - A Byzantine Timeline

Sicily seems a good place to rebuild Roman power base. But what I am really hoping for is Tunis/Carthage. I mean just the absolute irony! And you can just imagine Cato the Elder rolling in his grave xD.
