  5. Socialist/communist USA, is it possible, and likeliest time period to arise?

There are probably a fair few "socialist" Americas that are easily recognizable as democracies and run the gamut from pre-Thatcher Britain (nationalization of the commanding heights, NHS and other welfare state measures) to Scandinavia (broad and generous welfare state provisions, mixed...

Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

Oh, I quite agree. The legal process was quite botched, but let us not whitewash Yamashita. Yamashita picked his chief of staff., and they were most sympatico as to outlook and methods. (Sort of like MacArthur and Charles Willoughby). Tsuji Masanabu was a piece of _____. It is my belief that...

Stupid Luck and Happenstance, Thread III

A lot of what is in the volumes of her diary are deeply personal and she would horrified of anyone else reading them. Like in OTL the diary will have to be published posthumously.
  13. Sir John Valentine Carden survives.

It took the British two months to capture/liberate CAEN which was a day 1 objective. That does not sound very successful to me. (For comparison the Americans in their sector had taken/liberated CHERBOURG which wasn't an immediate day 1 objective by the end of June.)

  15. Sir John Valentine Carden survives.

There was a whole British corps involved in Operation Avalanche. And the Allies landed where Kesselring was apparently expecting them to land, whilst the 'diversionary' attacks earlier, further south (such as at Taranto) found the Germans gone or with only a rear guard left behind to contest an...

    Already there.
  17. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

My major concern with Yamashita is not so much that he did not deserve the rope but that the court case was very poorly conducted - Kangaroo like in fact - and the verdict does not stand scrutiny by todays or even the standards of the day. There is some evidence that his COS a vile creature...

Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

It’s not. It’s really just certain specific posters trying to claim that. And everyone else is pointing out that they are completely wrong.
  20. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

Your really off the mark here. Did the Americans commit genocide in South Vietnam? No, any people they killed were in combat. Were there unjustifiable killings? Yes, but nothing on scale of Nazi reprisals against civilians. They also spread a lot of money around, and most of the people in the...
