  1. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

Dresden was bombed because it was one of 4 Major transport hubs (Berlin, Dresden, Prague and Vienna) providing communication to and from the eastern front and IIRC the only one of the 4 not yet bombed. It also had over 100 factory's producing items for the military with 50,000 workers directly...

  3. Mary Tudor bears a son and lives till age 60

There were children, who were rumored to be his bastards, for example https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_Woroniecka and we would never ever truly know if Sigismund II was or wasn't infertile. Elizabeth Tudor was never married so we cannot exactly know if she was infertile or not. Well, to...
  4. Sir John Valentine Carden survives.

@allanpcameron tank question which might be relevant to the last 599 pages of non relevant discussion. Will the Valiant/Victor be as adaptable to the amphib role as the Sherman?
  5. Challenge the Keep British empire together after World War I

A traditional style British Empire couldn't IMHO survive much longer than OTL after WW1. Even without WW2. It might have been able to evolve into a loose Confederation of Dominions held together by a common currency, legal system, trading arrangements and a defence alliance. Sort of like the...
  6. WI Germany goes South in operation Barbossa

Isn't that sorta what did they when they encircled the Russians at Kiev?
  7. WI Germany goes South in operation Barbossa

Logistics, Logistics, Logistics. Its as simple as that , three axis in OTL to use three different logistic chains. You cannot actually attack with many more men than the Germans did in the South , no way to supply them. Hence the three axis attack to pin the Soviets and allow all the army to deploy.

  9. In hindsight, was American independence from the British inevitable?

The American identity in the mid 1770s was entirely forged by the events since 1765. Before that most colonies had a dual identity including their colony and their Britishness. Some also had a regional identity like "New Englander". If the British had responded more adeptly early, then this...
  10. WI Germany goes South in operation Barbossa

How about a compromise they still do the three pronged attacks, but they don't go for Moscow stopping around Smolensk or there about, since they realise that they don't have the logistics capabilities for a Moscow attack so army group center splits in two parts one defends and another moves south...
  11. In hindsight, was American independence from the British inevitable?

I think there’s too much emphasis in these kinds of discussions on “distinct identity”, and not enough on political representation or unity of interests, which I’d argue are more important. If the colonists feel like their voices are heard and London’s interests correspond with their own...
  12. WI: Castilian-Portuguese union instead of Castilian-Aragonese union?

Seems that the New world would be mostly castilian, as the treaty of Zaragosa will be enforced as they now have a union
  13. Other Portugals: What countries could have remained apart from Spain?

The Crown of Aragon included Aragon, Catalonia and Valencia.
  14. WI Germany goes South in operation Barbossa

Which easily could have gotten wrong. Also from Germany to Dunkirk/Abbeville is something like 200-300 km. While from Brest-Litovsk to Baku is 2,000-3,000 km. Which increases the risks significantly. Further the sickle cut had a goal of cutting the enemies line of communications. It split the...
  15. WI Germany goes South in operation Barbossa

The drive into the Ukraine and Caucasus should ideally be combined with the capture of Smolensk followed by a very convincing feint at Moscow. If the Soviets thought that the Wermacht had targeted Moscow, it is likely that they would put their strongest forces there - away from Kharkov...
  16. What would the British do if German tanks roll into Dunkirk? (no halt order)

It's also good to remember that most of the German commanders thought "Ha, we've got them cornered and surrounded. No way they're getting out now. We can take our time to sweep up their remains." While their British counterparts thought "Jolly good, there's the sea, now we can get out. Lemme...

WI Germany goes South in operation Barbossa

Ordering the Luftwaffe to focus on a surprise bombing of Leningrad means bypassing the Red Air Force and allowing it to take off, which may not be an advantage. "Taking" these two sites and ensuring that the Soviets won't be able to repair their infrastructure will be, as always, easier said...
  18. In hindsight, was American independence from the British inevitable?

There was quite a bit of reverence and respect for Britain and the King in the initial moments of revolt. There was even a belief that king, had he known about it would side with them and on their side. Opposite happened of course. I think if Britain was willing to break agreements with Native...
