  1. Miscellaneous >1900 (Alternate) History Thread

So basically for whatever reason the First Philippine Republic got recognized by the USA and survives to WW2, they basically got very lucky and because they played the Great powers against each other, Which they did successfully, as the GP's try to aid the Philippines, to gain there influence...
  2. AHC: Make Canada more heavily populated

If you started in the Middle Ages, or really earlier even, it might be possible, since a lot of that land is possible for a farmer to farm and survive on. Some land like the Clay Belt on the Ontario-Quebec border are actually pretty good, and a lot of areas of northern British Columbia are...

    1217: a Marshal Monarchy

Otto is still under house arrest I think but Henry the elder and currently free - his daughters's husbands are still disputing the Palatinate he surrendered to their now dead brother. Young Otto would probably be best though, especially if a short regency under William Marshall.

Campaign slogan for Antonio Starkvegas (R-CA) in 2000. An up and comer through the 1980s - he combine traditional Republican support for big business with an undeniable cool factor - jamming on stage with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and rapping with Dr Dre and Snoop Doggy Dogg. He had a genuine...
  5. Sir John Valentine Carden survives.

There is also the argument that while he might have been badly handled, he knows how the British fight now so would have better chance at beating them in round 2
  6. British Empire in WW2 using colonial forces across pacific and european theatres in much larger numbers

Why not, though? The territory of modern China is close to identical with that of the Qing Empire, so the only obvious difference is self-branding.
  7. Place In the Sun: What If Italy Joined the Central Powers?

For that matter, even if the Austro-Hungarian Empire broke up, a Hapsburg could stay on the throne of Hungary, depending on how it happened - the Hungarian loyalty to the Hapsburgs was the thing that kept the union going, not any affiliation with the Austrians per se. And during 1848 there was...

AHC: Make Canada more heavily populated

Does it matter which Canadian? Like Anglo-Canadians or French Canadians? Because for the French Canadians, I’m wondering if the Huguenots could pull what the puritans/pilgrims did, and just flee to the New World, and start their own Huguenot colony in Canada

AHC: Make Canada more heavily populated

Immigration fron Francophone immigrants and other non-English could have been pushed harder. In terms of economic opportunity, in order to grow you need to get jobs for all the people coming. Perhaps a earlier industrialisation in Canada. Wood and mineral exports?
  10. How To Avoid the Sejm Weakening Poland

That could prove interesting if they were to do that. Although I imagine it would arouse considerable opposition, no?

    1217: a Marshal Monarchy

Still alive in 1217 are the Welf brothers Henry V Count Palatine of the Rhine and Otto (IV) former Holy Roman Emperor. Their younger brother William is dead at this point but has a 13yo son.
  18. Henry the Young King lives, but what happens to Aquitaine?

John needs land and if Richard was to wage war against his brother he'd need to have at least some profit from it. So John's support excludes Richard's.
  19. Henry the Young King lives, but what happens to Aquitaine?

Wasn’t Philips annulment denied because he basically ignored his wife? Or have I got that wrong
  20. Henry the Young King lives, but what happens to Aquitaine?

Ha! I genuinely love resolving ATL unknowables with random chance like coins and dice x'D I'll to my comments above that Philip II could use the annulment (and a possibly better post-crusade relationship with Richard in ATL) to team up with Richard (and possibly John) and wage war against Henry.
