  1. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

To Stalin, and the whole Communist Party? They are slightly less dangerous than the Reich. Watches, gold wedding bands, religious symbols openly displayed, enlisted men actually talking back? Officers that treat the rest of their crew like family? Not a an American or British Commissar to be...
  2. A more realistic (IMO) AHC: US Metro/Regional Transit as good as in Europe.

Makes sense, and was part of my point. Whatever viability HSR has will be at least somewhat dependent on regional-metro. It is easier to sell someone on the idea of taking HSR if both ends are covered by good mass transit rather than transit where you have to wait 1/2 hour for the next bus.

Threadmarks: Sport: Most valuable men's rugby leagues

The final update on my series on the biggest leagues in men's sport. In the future, I will move on to stats for minority sports and for the main women's leagues. A politics update will come this weekend, as usual. Hopefully, this table will go some way to answering the questions I've been...
  4. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

what of course you can, they're not going to be running missions from central Moscow
  5. WI: Władyslaw Jagielłło converts to Orthodoxy

Presumably, he was baptized into Orthodoxy as a child. Not that this had any noticeable impact on his later activities. Anyway, big part of the Duchy was predominantly Orthodox territories and remained such well after his death. Jagailo’s mother was an Orthodox, daughter of the Prince of Tver...

A Hippie in the House of Mouse (Jim Henson at Disney, 1980)

Fry who? Seems more like to be viewed as an extension of G-Force rather than Battle of the Planets.
  7. New Britain Mapping

Request Maps/Flags/Coats of Arms/Heraldry here, II

New request. I would like to have a bigger version of UK in Google Maps, does anyone mind doing it for me? I want to have it include Ireland as well.
  8. Sir John Valentine Carden survives.

One point on Italian 20mm guns; iirc, the Royal Navy nicked any of these they could find that weren't nailed down... The Army might have to fight for them!
  9. "What Madness Is This?" Volume II: Prophecies in the Dark

I could be wrong about this, but I'm fairly certain that, in the original, we did get to see a Madness version of computers and the internet called the Ultra-Net. That doesn't, of course, mean that we will see it again here, but there is a precedent for it.
  10. AHC: Socrates becomes a god

It would be better if 1. Socrates left an actual written work 2. Plato and Aristotle did not create philosophies of their own, being just commentators of Socrates As a downside, no Aristotelean philosophy means that the scientific method might be delayed for some time or not invented at all as...

Discussion: What if Edmund, Earl of Rutland survives Wakefield?

Agreed, I just read about it being used as evidence, hence why it is in quotation marks. True, but then again they could’ve easily have fallen out. Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon and Princess Meg were close and looked what happened, particularly with Catherine.
  12. UK has advanced solid motors in the 1940's

The problem is that while asphalt is available in the early 19th century (and, indeed, much earlier), perchlorates are not; they require a considerably more advanced chemical industry than existed at the time. I'm not sure off the top of my head precisely when ammonium perchlorate became...
  13. AHC: Socrates becomes a god

Plato was a disciple of Socrates, and Aristotle - a disciple of Plato, and each of them created his own original teaching, which became a milestone in the history of philosophical thought. Philosophers from all over the world have turned to their works. They had many disciples and followers...
  14. Discussion: What if Edmund, Earl of Rutland survives Wakefield?

If he's rebelling like Clarence did OTL probably, but given he seems to have been close to Edward I don't think he'd rebel, atleast to put himself on the throne. As an aside, this isn't evidence to jack.

Guys, I think it's best we stop messaging. We've all offered criticism and the OP is set on their course.

What if the U.S. outsourced manufacturing to post-Soviet Russia instead of China?

Actual Soviet manufacturer or Warsaw Pact? Many of the Trucks in North Vietnam were from Poland.
  17. Alternate History: Explain the historical event

The Horsell Common rumor was started by HG Wells, who claimed, via telegraph, that Martians has landed there. This wild rumor spread like wildfire, with lots of amateur (and professional) Telegraph operators showing up there to meet the alien invaders. The “social network” thus created came up...
  18. UK has advanced solid motors in the 1940's

Given the Brits had Congreve rockets in the 1810s, and were using them in the Crimean War, how big a stretch would it be for somebody to think improving the stability and range might be a good idea? Go from that to realizing black powder isn't enough, and just stumble on asphalt and...

    Little Rock Nine Massacre

...sound like something written out in a frenzy of... a certain kind of excitement. Hence my initial worries. Certain people don't take very kindly to that around here, mister. Edit: also, blackies? Is that really what you came up with, when there's such a glut of words like "ni***r" to choose...
