  1. Sir John Valentine Carden survives.

Sorry guys, but there's about 10 pages of comments, debate and thoughts (on and off topic) between the last update and today's. Thanks for it all, but I'm feeling a wee bit out of sorts, so forgive me if I don't answer all (most, much, any) of it. Allan
  2. In hindsight, was American independence from the British inevitable?

The British state and the British crown were seen as very much the same thing by both the Irish and the convict classes sent to Australia. What a "country" is is not as clearly defined as is taught to us in high school. Scotland is considered a country, yet lacks most of the markers of a...
  3. Sir John Valentine Carden survives.

I think that point is made with HMS Terror's AAA being supplemented with them?
  4. Sir John Valentine Carden survives.

If she's in a high risk area, a ship is a fighting ship! The navy armed everything that could float with weapons
  5. AHC: Defend the Falklands

The only way I can see the Argentines being able to do it would be via hiding commandos in say a trawler. The only other option would be a sub but to my knowledge the Argentines only had two functioning at the time (One a new Type 209 and the other an old Guppy Boat from WW2 Though you're right...
  6. The 30 mm HE shell. The ideal weapon for use by WW2 Allied fighter planes?

I would guess the cannon and shell combination I'm suggesting would be effective at destroying E/A from bombers too. Would it be a bit heavy for a flexible mounting? And there is the difficulty of flexible ammunition feed and storage even with a powered mounting. No doubt these potential...

American Chernobyl: The Grand Forks Nuclear Disaster of 1980

Subbed. Will definitely watch as things play out. Preliminary prediction: Case 1: international scandal for certain. Major coup for the "Ban Nuclear" morons activists. Case 2: 8/10 likelihood of World War 3. Case 3 (@Mad Bad Rabbit's idea): World War 3.
  8. WW2 Technology WI: Airborne Divisions Create "Drop Pods"?

Why not make these individual drop pods out of wood approximately 6' tall, wider at the shoulders & narrowing to the head. With the correct velocity those that fail to slow could end up 6' down saving the Graves Registration a lot of work.
  9. Discussion: What if Edmund, Earl of Rutland survives Wakefield?

So, if Edmund is handling marriage negotiations or the negotiations happen earlier, who are potential brides for Edward? (I'm under the impression that Bona of Savoy was Warrick's idea).
  10. WW2 Technology WI: Airborne Divisions Create "Drop Pods"?

No, that's the Rapid Light Armoured Deployment Unit. The one's that are dropped from an altitude of 50 feet or less and bounce to the target.
  11. Sports What Ifs.

It might be named the Super Bowl anyway since Hunt was the one who inspired it. Also, it would be a matter of time before someone challenged the NFL, but would it work as well?
  12. Everything Has Gone Green: The Consequences of Googling Murray Bookchin

Sorry it happened mostly in the second half of the 1970's, but there was movements for community buyouts of factories especially in Youngstown, Ohio 1977 where Gar Alperovitz was involved and asked Jimmy Carter for the funds to buy and upgrade/modernize the factory, and this: A Socialist Oasis...
  13. Sir John Valentine Carden survives.

To put on fighting vessels only? Or did they also add to the cargo ships being used in higher risk areas?
  14. Map Thread XX

    There's wild animals, donchaknow.
  15. In hindsight, was American independence from the British inevitable?

I wouldn’t say before 1775-1776 or so. Remember, the Plan of Union by Joseph Galloway got shot down by only one vote IOTL. If things even went slightly differently with the voting, you could see American autonomy under the British crown instead of direct independence as the Continental Congress...
  16. WI: Spain turns the Philippines into a Settler Colony?

I really like your answer. It is quite thorough and well-argued. Thank God we live in the 21st century, where the chances of genocide or war are much lower than before.
  17. AHC: Make Canada more heavily populated

I’m reading a timeline where OTL Canada is more populated thanks to the English taking it in 1628 and the French looking to OTL southern USA instead.

American Chernobyl: The Grand Forks Nuclear Disaster of 1980

If you want a 1-2 punch, there was also the Arkansas accident on September 19th, 1980 involving a nine megaton W-53 warhead being flung out of the silo. If that had somehow detonated, it would have killed 10,000 people in the adjacent counties, dumped fallout across a long swath of Arkansas...
