Photos from Alternate Worlds II (read FAQ first)

Now back to the Secretaries!: Secretary of General Affairs Hugh S. Johnson giving a speech to the Board. (1939) Secretary of General Affairs J. Edgar Hoover giving a speech to congress an hour prior to the Purge. (1947) Secretary of General Affairs Joseph McCarthy showing a map of Communist...
  2. Sir John Valentine Carden survives.

Well OTL the AEC 1 had the same 2 pounder gun turret as the early Valentine The the Mk II had the 6 pounder turret of the later Valentine And the Mk III had the later 75mm of the even later valentine So yes ;)
  3. Earlier use of Tall Boys

That first hit (RAF Wing Commander Willie Tait) was one of the few that could be aimed due to a heavy smoke screen - and it mission killed Tirpitz (but teh Allies could not be sure) the majority of the bombers arrived to find 100% smoke coverage hence the poor results (I mean job done though!)...
  4. WI: decisive Spanish victory in the Dutch Revolt

I expect that no country will take over the Dutch colonial position, the Portuguese will just keep their strong position in the East Indies. But in Europe I could see Denmark taking over much of the Dutch trade in the Baltic and Dutch fishing and whaling in the North Atlantic, especially because...

    Keynes' Cruisers Volume 2

If you wanted to be particularly nasty to the nazis You could give the paras a Stinger In short this was an OTL field bodge developed in the Pacific mating a salvaged M1919 light barrel gun from crashed aircraft with stock and finger trigger mechanism To create a man portable squad weapon...
  6. Sir John Valentine Carden survives.

Hm, looking at it, probably not a hell of a lot I suppose. OTOH, do you need, or even want a turret capable of mounting a 6-pounder gun?
  7. Goeben Atlantic breakout

I don’t think so, not unless it happens before the war. I’m pretty sure if there was anything the Royal Navy could handle by executing its existing war plans, it would be one (1) isolated raider in the English Channel. You might as well ask if the French battleship Jean Bart could pass through...

I was coming here to say "What, Woodrow Wilson wasn't good enough for you?"

More Helicopter/light carriers in post ww2 period

I'm starting to wonder if that's our current plan in disguise.
  10. What If Gary Johnson won the 2016 election?

Really? I'm new here so I wouldn't know also what would his relationship with the media be like?
  11. The Plantagenet Succession

Yes; it's bloody huge - I've tried making this in paint 3 times and it became an absolute nightmare! So I wrote it out here instead...

What If Gary Johnson won the 2016 election?

There is one way, that is to make the democratic party reject the new left and go for libertarianism instead, so by 2016 they can launch him as their candidate.

Discussion: What if Edmund, Earl of Rutland survives Wakefield?

Out of interest, where do you get "Woodwyle" from? The two commonest variants of the name in English are "Woodville" and "Wydeville" the latter being the usual contemporary spelling.
  14. More Helicopter/light carriers in post ww2 period

As a counterpoint the Canadians could save a great deal of money by abolishing the navy entirely and just paying the US to protect it's coast. Don't tell me someone at the Treasury ministry hasn't at least thought about it. This way Canada get's to have nearly a dozen super carriers to help out.
  15. What If Gary Johnson won the 2016 election?

I wonder if Alan Dershowitz is going to be either Attorney General or a Supreme Court nominee, before he either withdraws his consideration or resigns due to the controversy over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
  16. AHC: competent Red Army by 1939

Given the complexities of history, I wouldn't be surprised if the answer to that was "all of the above". Mm, fair enough.
  17. What would a Spiro Agnew Presidency have been like?

How could South Vietnam have been saved? The best would have been air strikes and a massive rescue fleet evacuating those South Viets who wanted to leave.
  18. The 1988 Democratic primaries if Jesse Jackson didn’t run

Someone very well might replace Jackson in his lane, but I really don't know who that would be in 1988 that had interest in running and would be persuaded to once Jackson decides not to. Because of that, I'm just assuming we're sticking with the OTL field of candidates. As I said before, I think...
  19. Papacy Doesn't Feud with Holy Roman Emperors

Just because they're both sons or another reason? If it's just that could a reunification happens as soon as one line has a son and the other a daughter?
  20. A Hippie in the House of Mouse (Jim Henson at Disney, 1980)

Or we just call that place the Seventh Planet... :) Seriously though, using the Greek name of Ouranos instead its Latinized version (Uranus) would stop all the jokes.
