...unlike RTW or MTW where you can have units of superior quality or mass of cheap ones.
Civ clones can be fun (Call to power).
Europa Universalis of course. Avoid Rome version, it's crap
If you are into tactics then Generals series (People's General is fun, using Comanche helicopters...
...the Portuguese. But the Portuguese doesn't need to pay for a tremendous standing army ---> Just the Navy.
Anybody ever played Europa Universalis? I played Ottoman several times. No matter how rich they are, they can keep equally strong army & navy ---> something's gotta give.
But hey...
For some reason, after finding out that one can form Westphalia as a nation in Europa Universalis 3 I've become slightly obsessed with the idea, and this slight obsession inspired this map.
So, I give you the Kingdom of Westphalia in 1878. A moderate colonial power which weilds significant...
I just bought Europa Universalis III Complete (an EU3, Napoleon's Ambition, and In Nomine box set) for $9.99 from Best Buy! :D:cool:
I loved EU2 (though didn't play near enough), so I'm looking forward to this...
...Kings lasts from 1066 to 1453. You play as royal house, rather than a country, but you still control armies, diplomacy, etc.
Europa Universalis 3 lasts from 1399 to 1821 (with expansions). It covers the Renaissance, exploration, colonization, the Enlightenment, and ends with French-style...
...Tuscany, Venice, Sicily (Two Sicilys maybe?) Papal Rome, Lombardy?
You get the drift.
All you have to do really is look at a map of medieval Europe and you can see how plenty of the countries in Europe came about and formed together. In fact I learnt most of these from playing Europa...
Well, not unless they somehow conquered Persia and needed to send significant force to defend against attacks from India. Even then, the Mediterranean Fleet mostly used galleys that would have had a rough time with the voyage in the Arabian Sea.
I was always annoyed I couldn't build one in Europa Universalis III
How about the Ottomans? Would the Ottomans have any incentive to take the Canal? E.g. Fighting a rebellion in Arabia, and it would have been easy to send the Med Fleet?
...and Conquer - a very detailed historical turn-based strategy, that focuses on trade, economy, and... most of all - diplomacy.
Europa Universalis - a series of schlocky flash games, developed by Entertained Paradox Games and published as quiet propaganda by the EU.:D
Resistance...

This is a screenshot from my current game as "The Knights" for Europa Universalis 2. As you can see, I (grey) have managed to capture a good deal of Anatolia. The Karaman are an enclave in the south, and are my vassals. Everything gray in Anatolia belongs to the Order of St. John, though...
Should I get Europa Universalis III or get Crusader Kings, Europa Universalis II, Victoria and Hearts of Iron II: Doomsday? EU3 seems just easier to get but which is better?
Where do you guys buy Europa Universalis? The only one Ive seen was the Rome one and I already have Rome Total War.
Speaking of Total War I just got Medieval II Total War and was just wondering...is it possible to actually win the grande campaign?
...Kings, which reflects very good medieval times. Sure, it has to be put more attention on it, but it's my favorite title because of the times it presents. Europa Universalis series and Hearts of Iron are also good, but not my climate.
Once upon a time I played Age of Empires, but I got bored...
