  1. AHC: Rename a country, that unified from a long-described region

Well I know specifically that Ottomans in India were always referred to as Rumi's up until the beginning of the 19th century- the term Rumeli, and Rum millet are distinct from the Rumi identity, which is at least how Anatolians identified abroad.
  2. Wi President Cordel Hull

Unlikely. Hull starts out with the entire EV of the southern and border states. And I would imagine that FDR would be supporting him in any way possible. It would be a close election but a 5% switch is actually huge ( I am presuming this means adding 5% to Willkie and substracting 5% from...
  3. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

    Yes, that is ironic.
  4. Caught between the Bear and the Rooster (Stalin invades Germany 1940)

Yep, that is what I was trying to get across. Considering it wasn't that far from the truth.... The biggest difference is that they weren't actually willing to deliberately lose to do so.
  5. The Forge of Weyland
    Threadmarks: 27 May 1940

27th May Belgium 6th Army commences heavy attacks on the BEF, in order to keep them in place. While small actions take place along the whole front, the main attack is on the 2nd division. This is mainly composed of pre-war regulars - it was one of the permanent pre-war divisions, and while...

The Mare Nostrum doctrine: an alternate Italian Empire
Threadmarks: Capitulum XX: The evolution of the armed forces

Capitulum XX: The evolution of the armed forces As Sardinia, and later on the North Italian Federation, increased in power and prestige, it made many enemies, in particular Austria and Britain. As such, it realized that it must improve its armed forces in order to keep up with the rest of the...
  7. AHC: Native-Colonist Alliance In Americas?

The settlers and natives are always going to be vying for the same thing. Land. And there is no way to share and there will never, ever be enough for the settlers.
  8. The Bloody Pearl Of The Orient: What if China went to war with the UK over Hong Kong

it would have been a non nuclear colonial war which Britain Could win although initially CCP controlled china would have captured most of it
  9. Why are the western allies bombing civilians?

Technological limitations contribute a major part of this as there was no way to avoid it. The concept of not harming civilians non combatants is mostly a modern thought. Most of history is killing until you killed enough that they gave up.

    Independent Schleswig after WWI

Luxembourg has a pretty long legacy and were able to survive, but I do not think the people in Schleswig would want this, neither would Denmark or Germany. I do think it would end up in Denmark if the allies in lack of better knowledge did this
  11. AHC: Native-Colonist Alliance In Americas?

One of the unpleasant truths of American history I learned fairly early on is that when American colonists, Native Americans, and the British clashed, the British usually sided with the Natives. indeed, one of the motivations for the American Revolution was the British trying to stop settlers...
  12. AHC/WI: WWII Axis Commando Raids in the Western Hemisphere?

tend to agree up to a point, but not because raid(s) on the Caribbean oil refineries would not have an effect, but rather because there was no plan or strategy to capitalize upon them. they don't have a "second wave"of auxiliary cruisers available, they don't have long distance minelayers, and...
  13. As Dreamers Do: American Magic Redux

I would personally keep Sonic as the star. The Mighty franchise is one of the few memorable things from the original timeline that I don't like.
  14. What if Henry VIII had been better prepared to be King?

No shit show. Even your unprepared Henry VIII will still be a highly intelligent and charismatic man. Sudden responsibility can be very transformative and Henry will take his royal duties seriously. While still partying, drinking, whoring and jousting, which sounds just like ITTL Henry...
  15. The flame of British Liberalism burns steady and brighter: A timeline from 1945

Interesting. Could see Hore-Belisha potentially becoming leader of the Liberals from the mid-to-late 30s ITTL in place of OTL Herbert Samuel, with a decent shot at becoming Prime Minister in the post-war era before being succeeded by either Archibald Sinclair or Harold Macmillan. Fascinated by...
  16. Sir John Valentine Carden survives.

As an insurance policy in case the A15 cruiser tank stinks.
  17. Sir John Valentine Carden survives.

Probably giving the to the various forces of the exiled nations on credit

    Wi President Cordel Hull

Come to think of it, I wonder if Hull would even beat Willkie due to his age and health. A 5% swing to the Republicans would have given Willkie the election. Under normal circumstances this is a bit much, but given that FDR's personal charisma went a long way to his electoral success Willkie may...
  19. Demographics of a world without the Great War megathread

I would agree, although I think Namibia's probably gonna be Europeanized (less than 250,000 people in 1920). The others? Perhaps an independent Cape Republic in South Africa, but no more.

    Map Thread XX

Started doing a "international and internal borders follow rivers (on the base map) as much as possible" concept. Internal (and later probably international as well) borders where there are no rivers on map will be added as well if deemed necessary (for example, the internal border on Greenland...
