AHC: Texas splits into five different states

To be believable, I don’t think Texas could have been divided into 5 states at the time of the 1850 Compromise. It would have to be at a later date because one of the requirements for admitting a new state to the Union was to have a minimum population of 60,000, according to the Northwest...
  2. Map Thread XX

The Map is Done! Welcome to a world where the 1950s never ended, in all arenas from the cultural to the geopolitical! We begin with America, the undisputed leader of the Free World. It is on the whole a conservative, orderly place. The two political parties are not too dissimilar, which allows...

    Earlier use of Tall Boys

Yeah. If you want to hit beach targets you really need basic guidance like the Tarzon, and even then it would still require multiple bombs to make sure of the job. You've also got the sledgehammer to crack a nut factor. I did in the past wonder about a Western Allied version of the Fritz X or...

Ottoman Empire & Austria-Hungary collapse naturally?

I'll quote what I said on another thread: In contrast, Yugoslavia had all its state organs intact and (aside from its spiralling debt) working just as well as they ever had. So certainly, being the "lesser evil" was a factor that helped Austria-Hungary, but unlike with Yugoslavia, it wasn't...
  5. Heraclius tries to take Ctesiphon

Nope he would exposed himself and/or might get captured and killed. Meaning sassanid won...by default. Rashidun would be more successful against the Romans, nice
  6. AHC: Native-Colonist Alliance In Americas?

This was the early pattern almost everywhere in North America. It lasted essentially until the white colonists no longer needed their native allies.
  7. More Helicopter/light carriers in post ww2 period

What about USSR ? Can they make or use a helicopter assault carrier ? They did some interventions overseas too
  8. The Forge of Weyland

At a wild guess, I'd expect this to be because Mountain formations tend to have less heavy equipment than ordinary Infantry Divisions. Lighter artillery pieces, maybe more mortars and other weapons instead. Fewer trucks or horses etc., reliance on mules and backpacks. So easier to move by sea...
  9. The Forge of Weyland

Would I do a thing like that? 😇

    AHC: Native-Colonist Alliance In Americas?

I feel like this is at least partially a bunch of pop-history simplifications. The Native Americans weren't a monolithic bloc and the American colonists were Brits and weren't a monolithic bloc either. More on point, a majority of native tribes never sided with the British. During the American...
  11. How would a hypothetical Socialist USA look back on it's past history?

The 1619 Project is a noteworthy thing to point to because the first people to get angriest about it and first to put forward a strong intellectual critique of it were the Trotskyists at World Socialist Web.
  12. WI: Bruneian Empire(Philippines) Christianizes on its own

It would be hard to make a Muslim population to convert to Christianism. That's why you still see Moro people of the Philippines still Muslim even though with Spanish influence. In general Christians had far better result (for their goal to Christianize people) on pagans than Muslims.
  13. Which countries would have been most likely to fall to Communism during the 20th Century?

Good point on El Salvador, circa 1979-1980-1981, I was going to mention that myself. Guatemala, either in the 1950s or from the 1980s insurgency? A persistent Communist regime in Grenada? Guyana? Burma? Dhofar (a region of Oman) supported by South Yemen South Africa Syria? Peru - via any...
  14. How would a hypothetical Socialist USA look back on it's past history?

Classical Marxism and Marxism-Leninism was more progressive in a literal sense (things progress and improve over time; things in the past were worse) and were thus often much more comfortable in saying 'this guy in the past is bad because X but they were ahead of things in terms of W, Y, and Z.'...
  15. A Hippie in the House of Mouse (Jim Henson at Disney, 1980)

I have just realised something: with Triad Entertainment being made of both 20th Century Fox and Paramount, it means we could feasibly get a Star Trek/Star Wars crossover. I don't care if its a movie, a comic series, or game, you know we want it!
  16. ww1 with Germany +; Russia combo

Any chances for ww1 to happen with Russia on Germany's side? Say it's Germany + Russia + AH + Ottomans vs Entente
  17. Proposals and War Aims That Didn't Happen Map Thread

It would involve unspeakable horror, though.
  18. Pop Culture Oneshot Scenarios

Could work if they launch ps too early ( no contract with nintendo or they shut it down in 1988) meaning would be competing pc engine and others..

How would a hypothetical Socialist USA look back on it's past history?

A US where socialism/communism was credible enough implies an american socialist/communist movement willing to work with nativists/racialists so my guess is they'd disapprove of the capitalism but be fine with the racism.
  20. Keynes' Cruisers Volume 2

Well - everything is a compromise I guess!
