  2. US Navy Strike Cruiser timeline

Ok, just finished binging this and a couple of suggestions/rants. For background, I have 10 years navy in the lat 70's early 80's on subs and then 20 years in a naval shipyard as a system engineer. One case of apples and oranges. The VLS mk 41/8 cell module, 16 tons dry and is designed for a...
  3. Who would win in a duel? The IJN Yamato or the USS Montana?

With its superior fire control and 3 more guns I would give the edge to the Montana. Montana also had a 1 knot speed advantage that may have been helpful in certain scenarios.
  4. Alternate 'Battle of Midway': RN instead of USN, what's the result?

Franklin was hit by a conventional attack, not Kamikaze. The biggest advantage that US flight decks had over armoured was that they could be easily repaired in theatre. 1920s and 30s gaming had shown that damage to decks was easy and it mission killed the ship.

Nov 14,1939 Gregor Krensky (made up person) arrived in Poland thinking My first assignment since leaving college is here in Poland looking for a route for a railroad. Hopefully these ungrateful Poles will appreciate it. We have freed them from their Capitalist overlords and yet they seem to...
  7. Alternate 'Battle of Midway': RN instead of USN, what's the result?

This And This LC is dead on making the point that shoehorning the Brit carriers into USN doctrines & USN circumstances misses the question. Just dropping some Brits carriers ito the USN Midway battle creates all sorts of disconnects and fails. If you want a useful evaluation you need to...

    WI: Battle of the Frontiers

Not really. Attacking into Luxembourg doesn't get you into the heart of Germany You need railroads to support an attack and the links are not great, just one RR going in, and that cuts thru a corner of Belgium. Attacking between Metz and Strassburg, that's just sticking your head in a noose...
  12. Alternate 'Battle of Midway': RN instead of USN, what's the result?

The British Naval Forces taking part in Operations of Ceylon, 29th March - 10th April 1942 totalled 3 aircraft carriers, 5 battleships, 7 cruisers and 14 destroyers. The three aircraft carriers were: Hermes (12 aircraft) 12 Swordfish (814 Squadron) Formidable (33 aircraft) 12 Martlets (888...

Warships that survived World War Two and should have been museums!

I think that the Soviet Cruiser Kirov deserved to be preserved as a museum ship, especially for her part in the defense of Leningrad during WWII.

  16. Who would win in a duel? The IJN Yamato or the USS Montana?

Very true. The Yamato's are probably the best protected battleships ever built with insanely thick armour and excellent optics. The Iowa's are the best Battleship overall in my opinion even though I am a confirmed Anglophile. Iowa had best combination of speed, fire control, dual purpose battery...
