  1. AHC: The US with a high speed rail system as prolific as in East Asia or western Europe

Of course, it's the rule of cool. There is a suggestion in another thread that Turkey and Iran, virtually landlocked countries, get aircraft carriers.
  2. WI: France gives all Algerians full citizenship during the Algerian War

As France considered Algeria an integral part of the country, and had given some opportunities for natives to become citizens (although this required them to abandon most of their cultural and religious customs, so very few did it), so this might not be completely impossible (although I don't...

Trying to Please Everyone: Or Converting multiple Pop Culture Utopias into a Timeline.

Will we get a mention of Sigur Rós in a future chapter?
  4. Es Geloybte Aretz Continuation Thread

The Beginning of Projekt Mjölnir Sometimes, the reality of how scientific breakthroughs happen has very much to do with the personal relationships, the clashes, synergies, and biographical quirks of individual researchers, and two recent books about the turning point of the twentieth century...
  5. Discussion: What if Edmund, Earl of Rutland survives Wakefield?

Simnel was without doubt claiming to be Edward V, not Warwick or Shrewsbury.
  6. AHC/WI: "Black Scare" in U.S. against Fascism

FDR lives and Allen Dulles is prosecuted for collaborating with the Nazis, the trail leads to his brother John Foster Dulles who used legal suits to impede the US war effort, operation Safe Haven is successful and reveals the Wall Streets backers and donors that helped the Nazis rise and...

AHC: Keep the Shun dynasty around

Thing is, if the Manchu get through Shanhai, then the rest of North China almost certainly falls to them. All the incentives are for the Manchu to push on, and without the defences of the Pass or the Great Wall, there is little that can stop them that far. However, once we get much beyond that...
  8. Fact Check Article: Prototype Nazi Nuclear Bombers Were Within a Few Months of Hitting New York

I think both, as in he didn't want Hitler to chase the 1 ton HEU bomb, not because he was a good bloke but because it wasn't practical in wartime. I think that if he had figured out the real amount of HEU needed he wouldn't have been so reticent.

Napoleon invades Greece instead of Egypt?

Please note that I mentioned that it only would be probable to happen in an very specific set of circumstances: Cause, absent it, the Russian wouldn't have had any need to act differently to OTL...

Nice Sneak Peek on #1 in Music from Billboard Music and now a sneak peak of AT40 #1's from 1970, But will go in depth as we get to this point. July 11, 1970 - Three Dog Night - Mama Told Me (Not To Come) July 18, 1970 - Three Dog Night - Mama Told Me (Not To Come) July 25, 1970 - The...
  11. WI: Japan don't attack Philippines/Hawaii in 1941: how does US react

You can also expect every US base in the Pacific to fortify itself and to get at least some additional troops and weapons.
  12. France wins the Battle of Chiari

While the answer to the second question is not obvious, the answer to the 1st one is NOT to have Villeroi in charge. 😂

Discussion: What if Edmund, Earl of Rutland survives Wakefield?

Yes, but IMO it’s next to impossible (I really doubt they were alive in 1485, at least they weren’t in England). Lambert Simnel, I doubt it, and Warbeck is a no from me. IIRC he claimed to be Warwick and later Richard of Shrewsbury, so that’s a definite no from me.
  14. Alternate Hundred Years War with England-Scotland Personal Union

Joan's claim was anything but neutralized by her marriage to Philip d'Evreux. Philip VI literally forced d'Evreux to forfeit his lands in Champagne to the crown for fear that they could be used as a base from which to attack Paris. The French clearly worried quite a bit about Joan's claim in her...

    Miscellaneous >1900 (Alternate) History Thread

Over the last few months, I've been reading a number of books on US military history following the Span-Am War. I'm more of a readable "popular history" reader, rather than the deep-detail kind. I read several books on the Pancho Villa Expedtion and the prior Tampico/Veracruz interventions...
  16. Fact Check Article: Prototype Nazi Nuclear Bombers Were Within a Few Months of Hitting New York

The Ju390 did exist, 1 prototype flew. IIUC this apparently the plane that flew to New York and South Africa as well, if you believe that sort of thing.

A Hippie in the House of Mouse (Jim Henson at Disney, 1980)

I'd make Goof Troop like Gomer Pyle but still keep Pete as the Sgt. Bilko type.
  18. WI: Japan don't attack Philippines/Hawaii in 1941: how does US react

The US loads up the PI with bombers, and FDR does everything short of war to support the British and Dutch.
  19. Was the Arab Expansion Inevitable, and Can It Happen Without A United Faith?

Not necessarily, figures such as Musaylimah came about as a direct reaction to the growth of Muhammad's influence. Islam was revolutionary in the region due to its ability and capacity to unite the Arab tribes, whether such unity manifested itself in conversion or on the other hand, coalitions...

Starting in 1907, two new hockey leagues will start play in the United States. The Great Lakes Hockey League (GLHL) will have teams in Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis and St Louis. The other league is the four-team Central America Hockey Association (CAHA) with teams in...
