  1. Kaiserreich: Legacy of the Weltkrieg

My understanding of the current lore is that Germany's gains in France and Belgium weren't limited by any distraction, but rather the need to reach peace with Britain that wasn't going to accept excessive German gains in the West. After that I think Germany was initially neutral to almost...

    Vietnam, a unwinnable war?

As the French would point out by experience, occupying the Laotian panhandle wouldn't exactly stop the war so much as move it somewhere else. Occupying Cambodia and southern Laos would add another 250.000-odd square kilometers of land for American troops to patrol. If America's troop numbers...
  3. Could the USSR work well enought on its orthodox form to be a pleasant place in modern day?

Not unless they change quality of production. Now computer programming might be different. The Soviet Union would feminise it to reduce cost of labour. Soft service production was pretty good. And with near infinite replicability after doing the plan. hardware bottleneck Software good...
  4. Fumbling through the Wilderness - a TL from 1918

Thanks! I'm happy that you like it so far. I have a couple of days off so the next updates will be posted sooner. Thanks for your appreciation and I hope to hold your interest further. For sure, after the end of WW1 and the first Labour government, 1918-22 is largely forgotten but to me, it's...
  5. How does the situation in Israel/Palestine play out with no WW2/Holocaust?

Sure there was hate and sometimes pogroms against jews in the european history, yet just a few decided to live for good, and many of them to US not in the deserts of Middle East. Wich is that antisemitic dictatorship at the East of France outside of Germany for sure, that you are talking about...

AHC: As big a Eurozone as possible

Would either the US' or Soviet Union/Russia's positions on reunification have changed if Germany had decided to keep the the Deutschmark? The UK was sceptical regardless and it didn't change anything, France was likewise a member of the Two Plus Four group but would they be able to change things...
  7. AHQ: was Greece destined to be the cradle of European civilization?

While I agree that literacy is the simplest explanation for why we have early Greek literature, I'm less inclined to accept it as an explanation for the amount of philosophical schools and thought of the time. Also talking about political decentralization it's not like the Roman empire's...

A Hippie in the House of Mouse (Jim Henson at Disney, 1980)

The ‘as we know it’ line makes me wonder if we might still get a very different version of Beauty and the Beast. Anyways RIP Ashman and Hunt.
  9. As Dreamers Do: American Magic Redux

  10. Dual monarchy of England and France post-1220
    Threadmarks: Capetian England (family tree)

Capetian Dynasty: Louis VIII & I (married Blanche of Castile) Louis IX & II, King of France & England and Lord of Ireland Robert, Count of Artois and Earl of Kent Alphonse, Count of Poitiers and Earl of Sussex Isabelle Charles, King of Sicily Philip, Duke of Normandy and Duke of Cornwall...
  11. Fumbling through the Wilderness - a TL from 1918
    Threadmarks: Flashpoints

If 1919 started with two spectacular by-elections for the Liberals, surprising victories at Leyton West and Kingston upon Hull Central, then the year closed out with two more historic contests at Manchester Rusholme and the Spen Valley. The fact one was a clear defeat and the other a narrow...
  12. Could the USSR work well enought on its orthodox form to be a pleasant place in modern day?

They couldn't produce enough low quality computers for the Soviet military. The Soviet military was using computers that were worse than the 286x machine you could buy at Circuit City. It used to be a major effort of the GRU to try to buy basic home PC and smuggle them behind the Curtain. They...
  13. Could the USSR work well enought on its orthodox form to be a pleasant place in modern day?

In its orthodox form? Almost absolutely not- but it depends pretty hugely on what you call 'orthodox'. You could have a Soviet Union still ruled by the Communist Party with a mostly planned economy that could be a mostly pleasant place to live in the present day.
  14. Q: Would Hitler still be the man we know if he wasn't kicked out of art school?

Yeah, he did. What is your point? They may have joined the Nazi Party anyway, joined another party or started their own. Of course they might have done something outside politics but I was writing about potential.
  15. Vietnam, a unwinnable war?

1965 was the point when the U.S. committed ground troops in a combat situation. That LBJ & McNamara committed to a ground war without ever thinking out a long term strategy was criminal stupidity. With no end game they should have just accepted eventual defeat, and continued to provide...
  16. When the Levee Broke: An Alternate Lincoln Assassination and Beyond

I don't have figures for any particular stage of the war; just for the war in general. Those figures will be in an upcoming chapter. But in general, the war is bloodier overall. I'm not discussing every single battle, nor am I discussing every single bloodiest battle; I'm only mentioning those...
  17. Derailed and Rerailed: A story of American Railroading, during the Cold War and Onward.

That is an interesting conundrum and I wouldn't doubt there are plenty of refugees attempting to cross the border too. Agricultural visa's and labor are now a no-go so that needs to be sorted out pretty quickly, probably the Philippines or China could fill in the large gap?
  18. Kaiserreich: Legacy of the Weltkrieg

Technically they said that Russia can also go Republican, Monarchist, and Socialist, which still leaves out paths like the military and Dimitriy's aristocratic republic.
  19. How to ensure China remains imperial

This doesn't make much sense. While Confucius does have descendants in the modern day they don't have prestige to be elevated. Confucius died in 479 BC almost 2,000 years ago from your POD.

    Kaiserreich: Legacy of the Weltkrieg

Except the post says they'll be removing most of the overt nazi refferences and that Russia can still go down all the other paths.
