  1. Alternate 'Battle of Midway': RN instead of USN, what's the result?

Both the USS Franklin and the USS Bunker Hill were repaired and returned to duty after the war. The USS Bunker Hill was used to ferry back US troops after the war and then recommissioned as an attack carrier and then an anti-submarine carrier. The USS Franklin was repaired and recommissioned...
  2. "If They Want It They Can Have It": Ulster's Tragedy.

After losing the general election called soon after UDI in Ulster, rubberstamped by a lame and increasingly isolated Heath loses to a Labour and Liberal landslide in late 1972 snap elections. The election was caused by the non-attendance of the Irish parties who had declared UDI. After...
  3. AHC: Stop the Confederacy from seceding

I don't think this is hard at all, to be honest. OTL is probably pretty close to a worst case scenario, from the POV of a united Union. Just avoiding Buchanan might be enough to stop the OTL total spilt with a huge CSA. He basically let the South run rampant for months, gathering arms, gathering...
  4. William Walker: Confederate general?

If Walker wasn’t, I suspect he would have just barged in, grabbed some troops, & started fighting.

    Sports What Ifs.

I was reading the Athletic, and I realized that, beyond the much-talked about “Ted Williams to the Cardinals” WI, Mickey Mantle grew up on Cards games. What are the chances that the Cardinals could have an outfield of Williams, Mantle, and Slaughter, with Musial (my personal favorite player...
  6. AHC: Stop the Confederacy from seceding

Dave T has addressed this... (the following is all his, except any errors, which are mine) In late 1861, South Carolina prepared to declare secession, but secessionist sentiment was divided between betwen advocates of immediate unilateral secessions, and "Cooperationists". This latter group...

The Footprint of Mussolini - TL

Libertarian socialism sounds like possibly the ultimate oxymoron to me.

China does not take over Tibet

There was a comintern-affliated, internationalist faction within the CCP, who were okay with minotiry regions gaining autonomy or even independence.
  9. Alternate 'Battle of Midway': RN instead of USN, what's the result?

That's.... kind of the point yes. Three Illustrious class carriers, without some sort of plan like a night attack, are going to get torn apart by the Kido Butai 98% of the time. It doesn't make a good gaming scenario, but history is often one sided like this.
  10. List of monarchs III

What if Napoleon died in the Invasion of Russia in 1812 and the French continued the Empire with Tallyrand as the 2nd Emperor? 1804-1812: Napoleon (House of Bonaparte) 1812- 1838: Charlemagne II (House of Tallyrand-Périgord) [1] 1838-1847: Achille (House of Murat-Napoli) [2] 1847-1881: Eugène...
  11. Is civilizational centrism inevitable?

the Ataturks reforms basically made Turkey a Pseudo-European country that has relatively similar political development to the rest of Eastern Europe down to the Clerical Right which only differs from the rest of By not being Christian and instead being Islamic. Everything else is the same. To...
  12. The Forge of Weyland

The Allies haven't had time to do a proper intelligence analysis yet, they've been too busy firefighting. When things settle down, they will be making estimated of what the Germans are capable of next, which should be a bit more accurate. Its not just the Luftwaffe that has suffered - allied air...

    Wasn't Tibet pro British anyway?

Anglo-Chinese invasion of Tibet during World War 2?

I think the US 10th mountain division could be commissioned earlier for this purpose
