    The Forge of Weyland

Did you kill off the Beaufort? That might expedite the arrival of the Beaufighter.
  3. The Forge of Weyland

I believe I may have already written something similar in another storyline, but I think the Italians would be very hesitant to poke either the British of French given they appear to have taken the German's best shot, reset their feet, and are getting ready to start counterpunching. As a...
  4. AHQ: Royal Navy carrier strike on Wilhelmshaven, 1939

Well you will just have to take it up with the Swordfish Pilots They were able to do it reliably and accurately with 6 x 500 pound bombs
  5. WI Radovan [Son of Demetrius Zvonimir] Had Survived?

Ehhhh....why do you assume that the survival of Radovan would have any impact on Hungarian ties on Poland whatsoever? Besides, more advanced Polish-Hungarian ties developed in XIVth century, 300 years after the POD, the impact of it is literally unpredictable right now.

    The Tudor Rose over Brittania

Yes, but @bk01997 said they didn't want a French match. I was providing alternatives. :)
  7. AHQ: Royal Navy carrier strike on Wilhelmshaven, 1939

On the topic of dive bombing. Almost any plane can dive bomb. That doesn't make them a dive bomber. A dive bomber should be able to manage a steep angle of dive and carry a heavy bomb with mechanical mechanisms to assist dive bombing.
  8. The Forge of Weyland

Beaufighter replacing the Battle? The obvious problem is that it doesn't have a bomb bay! Now I don't argue that it can be made into an effective ground attack aircraft but that is almost as big a conceptual leap for the Air Ministry as the FB Mosquito. It's a fighter, sirrah!
  9. Third Bard's the Charm: A High Byzantine TL

Never a dull time in Constantinople. Nice how the butterflies would fly at a good time for the East Rome in general. More surprising, Bardas succeeded as his plot in the messiest way possible. But I see that in that way, he failed to get the support he needed, we'll see now how this Roman Civil...
  10. AHQ: Royal Navy carrier strike on Wilhelmshaven, 1939

Oh, certainly! And risks can be taken in war that they wouldn't be allowed to take in peacetime
  11. AHQ: Royal Navy carrier strike on Wilhelmshaven, 1939

I would not disagree with that statement although I note it was done at Taranto (and didn't the 2 Squadrons of Applecores do night dive bombing ops before El Alemain?) I was simply pointing out that the RN had the capability and aircraft capable of dive bombing in 1939 had the mood taken them
  12. AHQ: Would (or could) the Avro Canada Jetliner have displaced the Boeing 727/737?

Well, to answer the original question: no, it's not going to displace the 727/737. The only way it could do that would be by deeply penetrating the American market, and American airlines were just not interested in a short-to-medium range jetliner during the 1950s. The Caravelle only achieved...

The Mandarin Observer - A Chinese ATL

God this is great! Best China only tl here!
  14. The Forge of Weyland

The merlin supply will be the excuse the AM use to avoid building more Battles, despite the fact they proved very useful in TTL,they aren't proper bombers! Other aircraft like the Hampden are just getting a lower priority, so there will be some built. The Mosquito? Well, an unarmed bomber is...
  15. AH discussion: Domino theory correct?

For a perspective on why people of that generation believed it was an applicable analogy for the Southeast Asian region, see: https://www.wilsoncenter.org/blog-post/world-war-ii-race-and-the-southeast-asian-origins-the-domino-theory
  16. Have Space 1999 be more successful

It certainly was. There's a good video on youtube about the horror element of Series 1. The narrator said that Simmonds could be an arsehole, but all he wanted to do was go home and noted the joyous incidental music at the end of the episode as the spaceship few into the distance and wondered...
  17. Sārthākā

What are some cliches in a Central Powers victory TL?

Militarily yes. Economically no. A-H was one of the best functioning wartime economies in ww1 with a blockade and 3 front war going on. Militarily they may have been a dead weight but economically Austria Hungary pulled its own in ww1 and even supplied Germany with food and oil economically.
  18. The Forge of Weyland

I recognise the delay is OTL but what about the Mosquito. That would be just the job for busting up armoured incursions when in fighter bomber mode and an earlier Tsetse version would be fun too.
  19. AHTL: British Carrier Strike

IMO - Torpedo aircraft for the BBs, Bomb armed aircraft for the Heavy Cruisers These ships were the main surface threats to the RN at the time as the modernised BBs, New BBs and the 8" armed Heavy Crusiers out ranged everything in the RN except HMS Warspite (whose modified 15" guns could fire...
  20. Explain the AH Quote

Devdas Gandhi during the Bengal War, 1972. "Oh, him? He's not one of us. He's some new age hermit who lives on our land and acts like he is one of us and represents us to many a passerby. We only barely tolerate him on good days."
