A Hippie in the House of Mouse (Jim Henson at Disney, 1980)

I think a post about an official RATCON at EPCOT where people (i.e. the readers) can display their hacks for prizes could certainly be done. Not to mention that it'd be a good opportunity for Disney to display their own products like MICKEY 2.0 or promote their own technical developments like...
  2. It's A Long Way To Nagasaki: The Anglo-Japanese War

Well, this is a fine mess France finds itself in. Can't jump in bed with the Soviets, can't count on Britain's help, can't trust Hitler, and the Yankees are just sitting on their side of the pond, content to do nothing.

On GIMP, there's an option to increase the selection area by a certain amount. Unfortunately, even expanding it by 1 pixel gives a border section larger than the one shown here

When I do something like that I do it pixel by pixel too. Which is probably part of why I prefer the right one. But I think I prefer it aesthetically as well.

WI: Elvis quits the drugs, the booze, and gets a healthier diet, fires Colonel Tom Parker in 1969

He could live for another few decades, but the substance abuse he had already one through by that point would probably mean he dies sometime in his 70s. He continues to have a successful music career while reinventing his image as he was doing IOTL. @ejpsan That's a really interesting idea...

I have a question. How do you guys do 1-pixel borders inside your countries. Like they're a slightly different shade than what you've chosen to fill in the country. Because I've been doing them pixel by pixel and it's absolutely exhausting

    Sir John Valentine Carden survives.

@MarcH raises a good point about Australian + New Zealand troops I hadn't considered, that if the British win fast enough in North Africa, all the best troops Oz and NZ sent off to Egypt could start filtering back before Japan kicks things off in December. Of course, a counter-possibility is...

WI: Elvis quits the drugs, the booze, and gets a healthier diet, fires Colonel Tom Parker in 1969

2:30 AM, November 23, 1976 Jerry Lee Lewis shows up at the entrance to Graceland, belligerent and drunk, and when told Elvis is not taking visitors at this hour, he rams his car through the gate. Elvis comes outside to try and talk Jerry down [1] and for his trouble, is shot several times with...

With a victory in North Africa in 1941, Britain is going to be rather bereft of fronts to operate on until the Far East kicks off, which should reduce losses.

An Age of Miracles Continues: The Empire of Rhomania

The Roman army at a price has really won its goals, fighting through the Zargos mountains does not sound like a good idea. Iskander needs to go on or loose his attempt at the throne, and most likely die. Mesopotamia has been broken, the borders will be advanced, the remaining Muslim population...

AHC: State-owned enterprises more widely accepted in USA

Unfortunately I'm not sure what legal mechanisms the '50s US government had at its disposal. One could probably make an argument for the US taking over some of the factories and other facilities it paid for during the Second World War. I mentioned Springfield Arsenal for a reason.

How would some Samnite names (in Oscan) sound like if Samnites were the ones to create ATL Rome?

At the moment approximately none. Australian divisions had a single divisional cavalry regiment, which was nominally 3 squadrons of light tanks, but OTL they seem to have been equipped with Bren carriers until they got some old Vickers Lights at some point in 1941. The first Australian tank...

Go North, Young Man: The Great Canada

OOC: I'm debating what to call the city on other side of the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon. IOTL it's called Vancouver, Washington, but as here the Columbia is the border it makes no sense to have two Vancouvers in the same province. My first thought was to refer to it as Columbia (there...

The Concert of Earth: A Multi-Polar 20th Century

That Japanese-American defense treaty is an interesting development. I wonder how badly it'll clash with the growing anti-Asian racism and anti-immigration of the American west coast. I'm sure it'll slacken a little for Japanese immigrants, they are allies after all, but probably not by much...

the basemap i used was QBAM, with some of ulyanovsk's work, which can be found here. the QBAM basemap for the present day (mostly) can be found on drex/dinospain's post of the same map. although it may not have been noticable, layers of sea ice that i added were lifted from one of onerom's...

Well that answers that question from God-only-knows how many updates ago. One of the things visibly seen in your writing as opposed to many, many other works of fiction is the effect of morale. In lots of fiction, morale is either ignored outright or simply buoyed up with a great speech from...
  20. WI: Elvis quits the drugs, the booze, and gets a healthier diet, fires Colonel Tom Parker in 1969

He does "A Star is Born" (1976) with Barbra Streisand and the way the part was written for Kris Kristofferson, Elvis could had have an outside chance to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor.
