"If They Want It They Can Have It": Ulster's Tragedy.

Digression Warning. I could write an essay on the difference between the SAS and the SBS. They operate in very different ways. As an ex-Royal Marine, I can't be expected to be impartial, either. The problem that the SAS comes up against is essentially that they are an isolated unit. Being an...

The New Order: Last Days of Europe - An Axis Victory Cold War Mod for HoIIV

“When Korea sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with them. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. But worst of all, they’re sending them here to destroy our motherland...
  3. An Imperial Match: Anne Boleyn marries Charles V

I can't believe I didn't notice this thread before, but I am SO hooked. It's absolutely fantastic so far. That said, @pandizzy, take care of your health first. Your adoring audience will be here when you return!
  4. Largest possible British India?

Possibly Afghanistan and Iranian Baluchistan. Same for Bhutan, Sikkim, Ceylon, the Maldives and Nepal to the Raj. At the very least, northern and peninsular Thailand could be part of Burma, and, by extension, the Raj.
  5. Explain the AH Quote

That quote lead to the downfall of Fatawi as he literally did make one for them this also lead to the more independent jordanian, libyan, tunisian and lebanese to make a petition leaving the federation this scared Fatawi who fearing civil unrest launched a full scale crackdown on said area homever...
  6. The Decade of Disaster: What if the Franco-Prussian War Escalated? (relaunched)

will we have a French monarchy and what will be those territorial losses like OTL, worse, or no losses but big war reparations and limited armed force
  7. Place In the Sun: What If Italy Joined the Central Powers?

Very perceptive as usual, Jaenera. We already see how Japan is taking a different path from 'ultra-militarist-rampage': it's nibbling around the edges, seeking relatively small ways to expand its power (viz, by taking Indochina). This is still the era of colonialism, after all; there is...
  8. AHC: Female Politburo

An old post of mine: People have mentioned Alexandra Kollontai--but as an opponent of Brest-Litovsk in 1918 and a leader of the Workers' Opposition in 1920-21, the surprising thing is not that she did not reach the top leadership but that she died of natural causes in 1952... Even if she had...

    Map Thread XX

So, I've been playing with the "invert values" function of GIMP, and that inspired me to try and make a dark aesthetic version of the world map of my NG, Resilient Rooster II. I'm not unhappy with the result so far.
  10. The Decade of Disaster: What if the Franco-Prussian War Escalated? (relaunched)

I'd forgotten about the assurances like that. Prussia can either live up to its promises, and lead to unrest from its own nationalists, or basically go back on its word and upset Russia. I'm going to hazard a guess and assume that a lot of German politicians will prefer the latter over the former.
  11. Democrat victory in 1868 if Lincoln lived?

BTW, in OTL--and this might also be true if Lincoln had lived--even if Seymour (or some other Democratic candidate) swept all the close northern states, the Republicans in Congress could still have assured a Grant victory by disallowing the disputed electoral votes of Georgia.
  12. The Tudor Rose over Brittania

All of this might come into play later on, especially if the French back becomes so broken that the Scots realize that they lose more than gain with France and thus begin to realign with England
  13. The New Order: Last Days of Europe - An Axis Victory Cold War Mod for HoIIV

Wait, what do third worldist activists think of Poland? I definitely think that western historiography of the Holocaust downplays Polish victimhood and exaggerates Polish collaboration but I don't recall third worldists really having any opinion on Poland.
  14. 2018 Presidential Election

Ha, ha, well spotted, although he is still alive and from Labour, former MP Dennis Skinner as well (his age and age when elected in 1970).

Photos from Alternate Worlds II (read FAQ first)

I assume that Batman (1989) and Batman Returns are the same films as they are in real life, right? Batman Strikes I assume is just Batman Forever with a different name. I know that Batman Falls, Triumphs and Ends are fictional creations, but I do wonder if Batman Triumphs is a better version...

    Better 20th Century for France?

France while it didn't have the worst 20th century experience compared to say Germany, Russia, or China, likely can't be said to have had a particularly great time of it from 1900 to 2000, especially in the century's first half. What are some interesting PODs that might have allowed France a...
  18. How long could Nazi Germany delay its defeat?

Information about the Katyn massacre started to leak (from the Nazis, of all people) in the spring of 1943. Although I'm unclear how the way in which the Western Allied leaders viewed Stalin would affect their willingness to accept a Nazi surrender in 1943 (saving yet more fighting and deaths...
  19. Alternate 'Battle of Midway': RN instead of USN, what's the result?

A large portion of the squadrons reinforcing Midway were undertrained, or even experimental. ie: the four B26 bombers just equipped with torpedo racks. Many of the dive-bomber squadrons were not even qualified to make vertical dives in combat conditions. That they had to use shallow glide...
  20. A Hippie in the House of Mouse (Jim Henson at Disney, 1980)

Reading through the update reminded me of the little discussion had about the timing between Triad retaining Sega and Atari being scooped up by Virgin. Despite the decision reached, it still bounced in my head a bit, trying to think of the subtlest way it could occur without being too much, and...
