  1. FYI : about Ludwig Beck on "East First 1914"

The Germans were definitely concerned that the Russians would become more formidable over time and that therefore time was working against Germany. Again, this would argue for an "East first" strategy aimed at creating friendly buffer states in the East and pushing to launch point of a Russian...

    Sir John Valentine Carden survives.

Yes, as long as Gen Slim gets to invade Sardinia, Sicily and Taranto while everyone is focused on the siege of Crete.
  3. A Hippie in the House of Mouse (Jim Henson at Disney, 1980)

Which is of course exactly why I did it that way, and not just as an excuse/cover for any plot holes or inconsistencies or gross errors I inadvertently inject into the TL.
  4. WI: Ford Motor Company buys 'Austin Rover Group' in 1986 - 1987?

One of the reasons why I wrote the above is that from what I can remember at the time ARG's models weren't selling (I think the Maestro/Montego was specifically mentioned) and at the time demand for Ford cars exceeded their manufacturing capacity a Ford company spokesman actually said they...
  5. Would America have been better off trying to stop Communism in Laos and Cambodia rather than South Vietnam?

It seems to me that trying to prop up the South was much more difficult compared to the former two countries with the pull of unifcation and a major urban center under a communist government. Cambodia and Laos have the advantage of having only one major urban center each and far lower...
  6. WI: Carthago non delenda est

But the premise is not that they are an independent state, but an incorporated province of the empire. They might have a democratic government, but it would have not power outside the city itself. A Roman legion would be in place securing the province and they would not be able to maintain any...
  7. East first! Europe after a German / CP victory in 1916

... left ... right ... why not both for France ? Some french National Bolshevism as also developed in Germany post Versailles. ... or the spanish JONS as one of the parents of the Falangism of Franco.
  8. Would black population growth be higher in an independent American South

Black population growth rate OTL was relatively high - the economic incentive of raising more slaves after 1807 was high. Growths rates are heavily debated but lie in the 1.5-2.5% p.a. range. By comparison Mexico was around 0.8-1%. Not sure why an independent South would change this paradigm?

Would black population growth be higher in an independent American South

Emhh Maybe but not why you think? Population don't tend to increase sharply in a place where they have lower standard of living, there would be a larger black population duw to slavery but there wouldn't be any other growth in the black population apart from that, usually in Latin America there...

Soviets beat Northrop with F-20 idea?

The yak 141 was gonna be a supersonic vstol aircraft to replace the yak 38 and give the Soviets a credible naval fighter. However it was being developed as the USSR was falling apart. When one of the prototypes crashed in the early 90s the program was canceled. The other was bought by lockeed...
  12. WI: Ford Motor Company buys 'Austin Rover Group' in 1986 - 1987?

It would be integrated into Ford of Europe. With the possible exception of the Mini all the cars that were currently in production would be terminated because they competed with Ford's range and the factories would re-tool to build Fiestas, Escorts, Sierras and Granadas. All that would be left...

A Hippie in the House of Mouse (Jim Henson at Disney, 1980)

This is why I have a particular fondness for this thread, virtually everything posted as 'canon' is all in-universe media, which makes everything an Unreliable Narrator you have to interpret and fill in the gaps yourself. It's a great stylistic feature I'm totally stealing for my own projects.
  14. What are some cliches in a Central Powers victory TL?

As for the cliche of certain Kaiser-fanboys that the German Empire would become a happy and democratic constitutional monarchy in the aftermath of the war... The German Empire was effectively run by a military junta during WW1. With the mobilization for war, Germany (except Bavaria) was...

These Fair Shores: The Commonwealth of New England

Speaking of Southern Africa, I wonder what's up with "Kafuestroom" capital "Bergharen" and "Grootmyn" capital "Theronberg." those are afrikaans or german sounding names. they are marked as "one party states" like SA Federation. Possible these are deeper Boer settlements that got independence for...
  16. WI: Japan don't attack Philippines/Hawaii in 1941: how does US react

Reinforcements were coming and if ignored would have arrived. that would have made it far more threatening.

    Hearts of Iron IV "Fictionalization."

Australia Will need to look into Australian Superheroes. There's one from around the time that I can't remember the name of but had a magic belt and I think a Hammer like Thor's. Mad Max I imagine taking place either in a Post Apocalyptic mod or in the "A Colder War" 80's mod for Hearts of...

Have Space 1999 be more successful

Have it set 70 years in the future (after wormholes have been perfected), and make it a misfit crew of bounty hunters bebopping around the solar system in search of jobs.
  19. A Hippie in the House of Mouse (Jim Henson at Disney, 1980)

Maybe the Adventures Thru Inner Space segment could be introduced in an episode titled Honeydew, I Shrunk the Beak, in which Von Drake accidentally shrinks Beaker at a gradual speed, and Bunsen has to save his loyal assistant?
