  1. Could the USSR work well enought on its orthodox form to be a pleasant place in modern day?

Socialist price calculation debate Even Trotsky saw a central planning pricing problem. Missing Prices Unchanged prices It is hard to determine what something is worth when the prices are out of whack because they are set by political considerations instead of economic.
  2. Soviets beat Northrop with F-20 idea?

Slightly off topic but the R3R missile on mig21 was that BVR weapon? Could this new fighter use it ?
  3. A New Britain - A British Political TL (1995-)

Sigh, one sided timeline are definitely not interesting
  4. Vietnam, a unwinnable war?

Your analysis of what I'm suggesting, and your understanding of the geostrategic situation is way off. The whole line along the 17th Parallel is about 150-175 miles long, it's not adding 250 miles to the official DMZ. The line is anchored on the Thai border, which is a hard flank. There are...

A Hippie in the House of Mouse (Jim Henson at Disney, 1980)

As someone who adores the Where on Earth... choral theme, this offends me. I don't know why we can't have both shows as OTL, even if they differ in detail. Having the game show sound like a perfect fit for Disney's lineup, the combination of knowledge and skill tests with the hook of 'catching'...
  6. Soviets beat Northrop with F-20 idea?

As counterpoints: advanced turbofan engine as opposed to 50s turbojets; given the expected mission of your Soviet F-20 it'll also want a rough-field undercarriage; and not by much, or else that's totally overtaken by added avionics anyway. And yes, it was a big jump over its predecessors, but...

I think that Hanna-Barbera should open an office in Vancouver.
  8. A Hippie in the House of Mouse (Jim Henson at Disney, 1980)

Seems possible. Of course Rockapella would do well not to go claiming to have invented Zombie Jamboree around Jim, a close friend of Harry Belafonte's Though I guess Conrad Eugene Mauge, Jr. would have an issue with things too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumbie_Jamberee

What-if SMG for late 1930s and on

Winchester 1907 in .351SL, but double stack magazine, Shorter barrel and pistol grip. More powerful than 9mm or .45, but not so much that was uncontrollable in FA, as the French found in WWI.

    Threadmarks: Story 2550

Northern suburbs of Caen, France 1830 May 14, 1944 The Suffolks were pinned down. The tanks that had been supporting the advance were either popping smoke, seeking cover or burning. Half a dozen Stugs and two companies of motorized infantry had slammed into the flank of the advance guard as...
  12. What-if SMG for late 1930s and on

I'd stick with stick magazines :) Hopefully, double-row double-feed flavor for better reliability and ease of loading of the mags. The SMGs, even the best, were not a suitable replacement for rifles in all tasks? Unless one has bad rifles, of course. The 'dedicated' round might be a worthwhile...

  14. AH Discussion: Portuguese Cabo

Any comments? I intend to be a bit more conservative than Viriato in his settling of Cabo. So, a lot less than 1/3 of Portuguese emigration will go to Cabo.
  15. What if the Mark 71 8"/55 gun wasn't cancelled?

I mean most MLRS systems still use unguided rockets. Some obviously use more advanced targeting systems and even "unguided" rockets are more likely to be more accurate just because everything else is and the one calling in fire support can provide say GPS coordinates. Similarly even for unguided...

WI: Free Italy - a.k.a. Kingdom of Italy in exile as an Allied nation

Thank you @lukedalton I try to answer to your remarks below: 1 - At the moment, Italy is facing in my scenario around 2 German Army Corps, one in Sudtirol (chiefly Gebirgsjaeger and regular infantry with divisional artillery) and one in Friuli-Giulia sector (let's say a Panzer corps plus some...
  17. The Decade of Disaster: What if the Franco-Prussian War Escalated? (relaunched)

While Italy can take military Dalmatia, it's also a question of diplomacy and the conquest of Roma has already caused some controversy, probably less than OTL due to the general situation still going on full annexation spreee...at least without some strong ally
  18. The Tudor Rose over Brittania

Thus reinforcing why John was one of the worst kings of England, more so than Edward II. True (they might grumble “that man doesn’t speak our language and knows nothing of our customs” and also “who does he think he is trying to tell us what to do?” as Richard the Lionhearted never permanently...
